creating tweak mods

I honestly found the most helpful thing was to find an existing mod that did something similar and peel through the code for hints. A good starter available here is the example api that illustrates a bunch of functions. 

I'm very much a newb but I've picked some things up. What kind of things did you want to tweak.

Did the same thing deadlyreg when I started a few days ago. If you're just doing some minor balance tweaks (numerical stuff) you could just jump into the folder containing the mod you wish to tweak, take a look at the .lua files with a text editor, try to find the relevant lines of code, change some values/stuff, and test them in game. Before you do that, I do recommend you take a look at the links below for some more info and come back if you're stuck with something:
