I don't really see a point for variants other than for looks.  If you were to have variants, I think they should probably just be done as additional unlockable skins.  This would be in line with other skinned structures in the game.

Regarding to agree to disagree, I can.  I will state however, that while my views are indeed my opinions and preferences, they are based off analysis of the game, it's mechanics, and statistical research into user's experiences.  So I am quite confidence that my viewpoints hold reasonable merit.
