I have done a lot of modding for other games, but not yet DST, even though I play it a lot and have over 20 mods. I have been thinking about how a leveling system would add a lot to this game and I want to ask anyone experienced with modding DST if you think making a leveling system such as this is possible:

  • Combat Experience through fighting any monsters, that will eventually gain combat levels. Combat Level will slightly boost Health, Damage Output, and Damage Reduction.
  • Cooking Level, leveling up cooking will give foods produced better stats. A meatball produced by someone with 2 higher cooking level would get 2 more hunger, 1 more health, and 1 more sanity.
  • Harvesting Level - gained by using any harvesting tools (pick, axe, shovel) will increase harvesting level over time. Increased Harvesting level allows you to use less durability while harvesting.
  • Crafting Level, a high crafting level would reduce some costs of crafting items (by giving them back to you), but not reducing any cost too low.
  • Beastmastery Level - gain exp from taming any creature that can be tamed. Higher beastmastery will tame them for longer and more easily, and allow you to use beefalo saddle for longer time.

1 ) Modding damage and damage reduction is horrible in DST, since the devs did not add a proper way to mod this. You can change the value, but it will be incompatible to any other mod that changes these values, if you don't do it right.
You can take a look at my Home Bonus Mod, how I did it (might be a bit more complicated than necessary, but I think if you do it in a simular way, it will be compatible)

2) Cooking... hmmm I think the values for food are the same for everyone. But you can add additonal bonus if eaten. So you could add eg. everytime the character eats something he will get 1.2 times the positive values or simular ;)

3) hmm.. I think it should be possible by adding durabilty while harvisting.

4) See Construction Amulet

5) dont know, but I think it is possible.

@ezjm, here is a tutorial I created some time ago, it's archived now.

In this tutorial I went through the process with SenL to create a leveling system that could be used by various other mods which is completely compatible with each other. Simply read the post from start to finish and don't skip anything and you should have a working example by the end.

Edit:

I know it may be asked, so here is a tutorial on how to create an EXP widget.
