Help. Dont Starve Shipwrecked wont work

Im not sure how to fix the game. Don't Starve will not let me play the game, nor can I play reign of giants. I can only play shipwrecked. I deleted all the data for don't starve and reinstalled the game. Everytime I start it up there is already one file of shipwrecked saying its save file one and its only on day one. The game doesn't save and doesn't really work. I'm not sure what to do

Hello @Thisisitmaybe, welcome to the forums. Mind attaching the log.txt found under Documents\Klei\DoNotStarve first? That should reflect why the game won't run or save properly. Also, if possible attach a copy of your dxdiag.txt. For now I'd recommend the following method:

• On steam, right click Don't Starve
• Click Properties
• Select Local Files
• Click Browse Local Files
• Open the Bin folder
• Right click dontstarve_steam.exe
• Click Properties
• Select Compatibility Tab
• Tick Run this Program as Administrator
• Toggle any of the Compatibility modes
• Press Apply
• Press Ok
• Start up Don't Starve from steam

If one compatibility mode doesn't work, try the others. Be sure to attach the log.txt first so the devs would be able to see what's wrong with the game and whether they can fix it on their end. Good luck, cheers.

I tried but nothing. I didn't quite understand "Toggle any of the Compatibility modes" I tried using windows 8 and then windows 7.

@Thisisitmaybe About dxdiag.txt, here's a Klei Article talking about it. With "Toggle any of the Compatibility modes" is something that fixes some common issues with the game, but looking at the log.txt the game itself is outputting the following line:

File [boot_modindex] failed to save to SteamRemoteStorage

There was another player experiencing the same thing as you (thread), but they haven't replied yet to my latest suggestion. Which you already have done and doesn't seem to affect it.  What I'd like for you to try is the one I suggested first there which is the following:

• On steam right click Don't Starve
• Click Properties
• Under Updates disable the Enable Steam Cloud Synchronization for Don't Starve
• Then try to start up the game again

So based on the log we know something is wrong with SteamRemoteStorage. You could also probably try to go to your steam's location and set steam to run it as administrator:

• On desktop (if you have a Steam shortcut) rightclick
• Open File Location
• Right click steam.exe
• Click Properties
• Select Compatibility Tab
• Tick Run this Program as Administrator
• Toggle any of the Compatibility modes
• Press Apply
• Press Ok
• Start up Don't Starve from steam

Just seems odd that the game cannot access the SteamRemoteStorage. If I find anything else  to suggest, I'll let you know.

@Thisisitmaybe Found a very old thread that tackles the same issue you do with SteamRemoteStorage (thread). Try their method. I hope it works, good luck.
