There's a staff sitting on the island I'd reeeeally like to settle a base on, but there are monkeys and I'm already having PTSD even though they haven't done it yet. Yet. So I'm totally cool with just ditching the island permanently, putting a sign on it and never visiting it ever again, if the curse is as bad as I think, but if not I'll just bite the bullet this upcoming dry season and pick it up since I doubt the eruptions will stack on top of each other, it'll just be redundant and do nothing for the duration of the curse. The reason I asked is because during a run on the very early version of Shipwrecked I got the curse and it literally lasted 40+ days and I heard that that potential bug was hitting other people too so I wasnt sure.
