Dedicated Server "Failed to load modoverride.lua"

Hello there, after hours of copy;paste, check forum/topics/wiki etc... for getting my server running with the config I want (and successfully) I've started to tweak it with some mods i've been playing around with DST before my dedicated server.

So... the problem is : My mods is working perfectly on the server BUT I have tweaked the config of them on the modoverride.lua aaaaaand "Failed to load" error T_T

I'm pretty sure I have done the config badly, it took me some time to "try" to make it right but.. ew I think i'm doing this wrong.

I followed the help @Zillvr and @ToNiO55 give to other buddies on the forum but can't figured out with it.

I'm asking for help now :(

Hey @Kerros, welcome to the forums. Sorry for the rather oversimplified guide I made before. I think your issue arises from the improper groupings of the configuration options. I've corrected your modoverrides.lua based on what you posted and you can find it below. I haven't tested this myself, cause I don't have all these mods you are trying to play with. Anyway, copy paste the whole texts below and see if it works. Report back if it doesn't, cheers.

I tried out but I've got the same error from the log, still thinking I've messed up something with the config in the modoverride.lua but just can't figured out what

Broke my nerves x)

Your little guide was very helpful tho don't think the opposite, can help lots of people I think :)

Failed in the last post got the good orthography for the modoverrides.lua :c

I've checked with all other mods without config added in the file for knowing if it's one of them conflicting and nope...

Something is telling me that is a custom item added with a mod disturbing the file to get loaded on my server

The other one world gen for the shard is the default preset cave but I don't think it's conflicting with.

I tried everytime to launch only the first server without the shard for checking the mod if their working correctly

I can turn everything on default for testing, not a problem and I was thinking to do it. But I'll waiting your opinion on the problem with the log and worldgen before doing anything.

I was also thinking to change the setting of the worldgen after creating the world with the default setting everywhere. With a c_regenerateworld() in the cmd

@Kerros, your worldgenoverride.lua files are ok. And upon closer inspection again... welp, I made another mistake with the correction text above.  MAXSTACKSIZE = "250", needs to be MAXSTACKSIZE = 250, for the 99 Item Stack mod you're using. (Correcting my mistake now.)

 

Sorry again, there could be other problems after this cause I don't have all these mods to test them directly on my side.

You just fixed it Zillvr, love you so much :D

Mods working but got some malfunction awareness due to some mods who add some new recipe to the game => Geralt in particular, adding sword and silver component, the archery mod too but will fix it with some config edit, got the exemple you made above for me :)

Just a last question (yeah my configuring sickness is high). The worldgenoverride I've got on my master server can edit some spawning objects in the caves like shroomtrees etc... but my cave world is on a shard, if i edit the file is this applicating to the shard or something ?

Later in the journey i've tried to edit my cave world with the same worldoverride but it just broke up the server many times, doing some things impossible to spawn, with error message like "missing tiles" and "no place for X thing to spawn in the area"

@Kerros, I don't know if this guide is still valid but but since it's the only cave preset list I know that a dev has published, hopefully it should be what you are looking for. (Worldgenoverride.lua with the new post-Caves settings)

 

With regards to specific issues with mods conflicting with other mods, I'd suggest you confer the issue to the mod creators directly so they know about it and may (if possible) release a fix for it.

Already go in there, i've copy/paste the worldoverride of this for my master server but as i said before configuring with this worldgenoverride on a shard is quite buggy... maybe should i tell the devs in the topic, will think of it, need to sleep right now x)

@Kerros, in the link I showed above showing the worldgenoverride.lua, inside the spoiler in that link is the full list of options that you can use for worldgenoverride.lua. That worldgenoverride.lua is for caves (slave server) and is entirely different from the worldgenoverride.lua of the overworld (master server). 
 
The cave's worldgenoverride.lua information should be taken from there (Worldgenoverride.lua with the new post-Caves settings) while the overworld's worldgenoverride.lua information should be taken from here (Customizing the World Map).
 
So looking at it from the top view you should have two worldgenoverride.lua files, one for your caves server and one for your overworld server. I hope that makes sense, cheers.

@Zillvr, to explain more clearly the problem i've got :

 

Actually my master server have this worldgenoverride and my shard just got preset = "DST_CAVE"

The problem actually is when i test to do different way and for the sake of configuration sickness in my head i've got some error.

Here's what I do :

 

1) Master got this worldgenoverride

2) Shard got this worldgenoverride

3) I just don't touch the worldgenoverride for both of them, everything is on "default"

4) Got error on the shard cmd : Missing tiles error/Impossible to spawn X prefab in X area
5) Back to the worldgenoverride of the shard, I change the "task_set = default" to "task_set = cave_default" and the "start location = default" to "start location = caves"
6) Relaunch the shard, got the same error

My question is : maybe I must make some of the prefab to not spawn in the cave ? Like "cactus = default" on the cave eeh, cactus doesn't show up in the cave, in my playtrough on DS at least. So if I set "cactus = never" could this be the problem solver ?

@Kerros, I think I got my Dedicated Server to do the same thing yours did. Anyhow, I fixed it by deleting the save folder inside shard folder. Then doing the process below and starting up the server again. 
 
With regards to the worldgenoverride.lua for the caves in the shard folder.

  • I copy pasted the whole text from this worldgenoverride.lua into the worldgenoverride.lua inside the shard folder.
  • Changed preset = SURVIVAL_TOGETHER, into preset = "DST_CAVE",
  • Changed start_location = "default", into start_location = "caves", 
  • Changed task_set = "default", into task_set = "cave_default", 
  • Change any other preset I wanted, like slurper = "always", this step is up to you.
  • Delete save folder in shard folder.
  • Start server up.

Shown below is how my worldgenoverride.lua looks like inside my shard folder.

return {    
override_enabled = true,   
preset = "DST_CAVE",        
	misc = {        
		start_location = "caves",
		task_set = "cave_default",
	},  
	animals = {
		slurper = "always",    
	},
}

Try it out and remember what Ipsquiggle has said in worldgenoverride.lua:
 "Also bear in mind that any value set to "default" doesn't need to be specified at all!"
 
Don't forget to keep the server closed down when editing/tweaking its folder files. Report back with your log.txt file if it doesn't work, cheers.

Btw the worldgenoverride.lua config on the Don't starve wiki have change in the last few days, glad they do this :-)

I've another question, the command for discovering map doesn't seem to work for me... don't understand, i've followed the wiki, maybe doing it wrong don't know exactly :/ It's boring to regen the world and seek for the entrance of the cave after each reset lol

Again, thanks @Zillvr,  for clarifing out this thing for me, now my config sickness can go up high, LET'S EXPLORE CAVES !

@Kerros, with regards to the worldgenoverride information in both the links I mentioned above, upon closer inspection this worldgenoverride.lua one seems to be the more complete list of all the preset options compared to the other one. It's only a matter of which options to use.
 
For easy caves testing I'd recommend the following codes:

c_goadventuring()c_gonext'cave_entrance'

Just checked the logs, everything seems ok.  Did something happen? The logs says you were able to explore both the overworld and caves. Shards connected, etc. Did something go wrong that I'm not aware of?

Figured out myself too, I used the worldgenoverride you linked above with the two server with precise configuration to not blow up everything :p

Everything is ok, just the problem with the map reveal command but all is fine.

Thanks for the commands you've linked above, very usefull I must admit lol, searching for the entrance with every restart was quite... well, very annoying

Well if you really want to use map reveal, you could use the following code in your console command:

minimap = TheSim:FindFirstEntityWithTag("minimap")minimap.MiniMap:EnableFogOfWar(false)

Although it doesn't reveal the resources/prefabs it removes the FOW and shows the world's shape and floor turfs. That should be more than enough right? Be sure that you trigger the "Remote:" Mode by pressing CTRL with your console opened so you can send console commands to your server in-game as an admin.
