[Suggestion] Overwater

I know its hard to make but i just got an idea last week when i play shipwrecked, its about overwater features. why dont add some overwater features beside sailing, hunting, etc. for example:

 

1. raft house : an house overwater ofc with a high cost of boards and ropes for the risky one and with lot of stones for the sturdy one. ofc when flood, storm, volcano season its very hard to mantain, u need to repair the damages wether its the wave, fire caused by meteor,etc. hard to make but its a fun and cool feature.

maybe make a very hard raft house to make but make it so it can be dragged by boat.

 

2. JELLYFISH FARM: seriously. why not? its really cool, u can make it from lots of trawl net, boards and stone. u need to put some jellyfish in it and give it hmm maybe some pellets made from poops, or just put some food in it. same with raft house u need to repair it from time to time because of the weather.

 

3. Fish farm : kinda like jellyfish farm but not as cool.

 

4. Seaweed farm: made from boards, rope and gears so it looks like a pipe with seaweed grows in it. i know seaweed its kinda op here but maybe make this feature a little difficult to mantain by adding it can be eaten by dogfish or something so must be carefully maintained.

 

5. swimming pool : made from buoys ( maybe glass + something ) and ropes, swim to restore sanity.

 

6. dock : so we can walk overwater!, make it a way to our raft house, farms and ship.

 

thats all the overwater idea i have, and why not make some more use of glass? maybe add aquarium for fun factor we can put our sea creature collection ( eels, dogfish, swordfish etc) in land, maybe add some pellets made from poop so it can give caviar or something or just make it for garnish.

I like these ideas. The ability to build anything on water would be nice, and since food is the least of your worries in Shipwrecked anyway I see no reason why a fish/jellyfish/seaweed farm would actually be overpowered. I mean, I have 9 improved farms growing dragon fruit in my SW base which provides excessive (VERY excessive) amounts of food, and that's something that could be done in normal DS, so it's stupid to say that seaweed is overpowered.

Oh yeah, I assume that by a 'dock' you mean turf that can be placed on water? 

A cool idea in my opinion would be to have a base layer that would go on the water (e.g. stilts and some boards) and then you could put turf on top of that, like a grassy turf, for farming or whatever.

Yup, so when u got the tropical fish school near ur base, u can just build that dock so u dont have to go ride ur ship.

Having any sort of indoor structure to be used by the player in Don't Starve is something I've always thought distasteful. All this talk of floating houses makes me worry  :spidercowers: . Houses have always been reserved for the mobs - pigs, merms, bunny people.. I guess I just like that aspect of the game and to each their own, but I certainly wouldn't utilize anything of the sort. It seems to be in conflict with survival in regards to the storyline. Stepping up your technological going-ons in order to fully discover the world, collect the things and move on after gathering all the non-renewable/rare resources from the current world. That's what I enjoy at least, and the housing idea sounds extremely out of place to me :/.

 

Farming fish/jellyfish presents the same conflict for me, but on another note.. why? They're already simply to gather in large quantities - food is not at all an issue in SW. Seems pointless to throw in something that makes it stupidly easy when it's already pretty much there. Also, being able to make THAT many spear guns is OP. Having that much seaweed without having to travel is definitely too much, and sounds boring honestly.

 

The idea of a small body of water to restore water.. this one I find interesting, but maybe a hot spring? Something that lasts a short time but greatly increases sanity, like a fail safe for going completely insane - brings you back up to ~45 sanity from 0 in a short time span to prevent having to deal with shadow creatures. Spit-balling here, but the general idea is a good one :D. if it was a permanent structure, though, it would have to restore it slowly.. and maybe be repaired occasionally?

 

As long as you aren't able to bridge islands with docks, they would be neat as a mostly cosmetic thing around island bases. Being able to put turf on a dock type thing though... nah. You're effectively creating new land at that point, not just rearranging it.

In my opinion, the idea of farming/grinding in sandbox games is that you come up with clever ways to manipulate the tools of the game for better rewards than doing it the conventional way, not that the devs themselves give you a blackbox farm that essentially takes away the need to invent. For example, someone else suggested the idea of buoys that you can place in the water. You could use those buoys to manipulate the environment to make it suitable for grinding jellyfish.
