Bug: Volcano eruption on day 19

I just had the volcano erupt on me on day 19. The rumbling started a couple of days earlier. Other than that the first season was completely normal.

 

Here's what the wiki says:

When the staff is picked up, even by a Prime Ape, the player is cursed with a meteor shower like in the Dry Season, however there is no overheating and the current season remains. It is yet unknown if the curse is permanent or drawns off in a finite amount of time.

 

Did an ape pick up a staff I never even saw? Can someone provide additional information? Am I screwed?

 

An any case, this must surely be a bug, right?

probally and prime picked it up unless you arleady had this area fully explored, it also happens with mandrakes, they pick it up before you even know they were there.

 

if you already had this area totally explored when it happened, well then it's probally a bug since the rest of the world should be on extasis, making impossible to an ape to pick it

I just had volcanic eruptions start on day 45.  I did find the volcano staff around day 30 and very carefully did NOT pick it up.   It's also still raining, so I'm getting puddles and volcanic eruption at the same time.
