World options?

Recommended Posts

I gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed in the state this was released. It was slated for a "fall" release. We got it december first. Fine. But we got a pre release in a virtually unplayable state. I don't understand how oversights such as the lack of gears, and the seasons could slip through into ANY playable state, regardless of pre release. And given Kleis history of releasing patches that systematically ADD to the game and are reasonably balanced, this is especially disappointing. This coming off the heels of a still unfinished DST is shaking my faith in the brand. /end rant

All the problems can be solved with world options that allow us to turn off the seasons, and increase, say, the number of clockwork boaty guys. Whilst we wait for the game to reach a playable state, we can at least explore the aspects worth exploring. So whens it coming?

early access is early acces. duh.

and it is not "unplayable", so calm the f*ck down. your rage doesn't help much.

No, being a fanboi doesnt help. Its unfathomable how much pushback there is to criticism. Just keep lowering your standards and you'll get the quality you deserve.

It is the early access. A beta of the game. They make this VERY CLEAR. This means the game have a feel bugs and may be a little unbalanced. If you want the complete, "playable", balanced game waits its full launch.

Complaining that the game is unbalanced doesn't help, it obivious that this was supose to happen because the game is still in beta.

When you buy an early access game you're volunteering to be a game developer's bug tester, therefore you'll experience bugs and unfinished mechanics. The game will be updated as time goes on, they've already said they will address the issue with gears.

And guess what? The original Don't Starve was like this during early access. So was Reign of Giants. I was there for both of them, and both of them were developed and updated until they were finished, and had amazing quality in the end. The guys at Klei are basically the god fathers of early access, they're one of the few indie devs you can trust with Early Access because they've been successful with it everytime. Even if you look at DST which is still unfinished, they've bad incredible progress since they've started, basically being on par with standard DS and RoG now.

The game is nowhere near unplayable even in it's current state. I managed to survive 70 days through a whole round of the seasons before I decided to make a new world with a different character.

"Early Access" does not make a game immune to criticism. Once you start charging for a game its open season. Don't starve is the one of the only early access games I'd be willing to "per-purchase" based on their history. I was around for all the previous pre releases as well, and they wernt like this. Seems to be a lot of bet hedging going on here, setting one up to be flawproof.

DST was set to release last summer? The word "release" seems to be thrown around alot. Here we are more than a year later. That game was promised to be free... No one who was truely interested in that game doesnt already own it, having had paid for it. Its a cash grab and anyone who doesnt realize that is delusional.

So here we are at round 2. Not with an "unpolished" game. Or a "bug free" game. But a game with tremendous faults, promised to be RELEASED in fall.

"its pre-relase." "its 5 bucks!"

Whats wrong with you people? Is everyone really this gullible and stupid? Why is no one willing to take Klei to task?

Of course it doesn't make it immune to criticism. But you're not necessarily giving constructive criticism and are instead rambling about the nature of early access itself, and seem to be under the impression none of the current issues will be fixed. It's unwarrented. They've already ackowledged the issue with gears for instance, and will fix it by putting more chess robots at sea, and having gears wash up with the tides.

They said people could get their hands on it last summer. People were indeed able to play it last summer. Their definition of "release" in these terms is "as soon as the public can get their hands on it". They also promised it would be free via early beta codes or if you already own Don't Starve before a certain date. They followed through with that promise as well.

oh, you're so full of crap. And not in a posistion to judge what "constructive criticism" is. I cast judgement on what is! Not what could be. Maybe you should purchase "towns" on steam and wait with baited breath on what "could be." Not to say this is that, but stay focused. I have faith enough to expect many of the current issues will be fixed. I am disappointed that this **** was released in the state it was!

As someone without 1000 posts here and someone who hasnt memorized every dev post by heart, i must of missed this part.  I think its reasonable for a casual fan who has his ear to the ground to expect "release" to mean release.

"Multiplayer Alpha Coming Summer 2014" seemed pretty clear to me.
