When I was sitting by my campfire one evening, I saw birds were landing onto nearby seeds to eat, then instantly flying away because I was too close. That gave me the idea, "Automated seed farming?!"

Nothing can truely be automated in Don't Starve due to the fact of HOUNDS and NIGHTTIME (And starving)!

But, I still decided to come up with a list of things that could be atleast semi-automated (Just requiring you to watch the screen so you don't die).

Working Automated Thingies

Auto Seed Farms

Drop raw seed(s) on the ground.

Watch your screen so you don't die.

Harvest seeds when done.

Auto Smallbird Feeder

Drop COOKED seed(s) on the ground in your base-camp (They can be dropped in stacks).

Get smallbird.

Smallbird will eat the cooked seeds when needed and regular birds will not bother because they only like their seeds raw.

Auto Bunny Catcher

Put bunny traps around a rabbit hole. The more you have, the less you have to check-up on it.

Auto Bird Catcher

Put bird traps anywhere near your base. No seeds needed.

Ideas That Don't Work (But seemed like they would)

Auto Campfire

Put tons of stuff to burn in a campfire.

Does not work because: Campfire has a limit.

Tested with over 20 manure into one fire, lasted about as long as a piece of rope.

Smallbird Food Storage

Feed smallbird a ton of food.

Does not work because: Smallbird has a food limit?

Mildy tested, this seems to be the case.

that auto smallbird feed mechanic sounds nice, I didn't know that would work, i've been using all my smallbirds as sacrifices.

As for bunny traps, place ONE trap right over the hole; that will maximise the efficiency per trap, because it will trigger whenever the rabbit sticks it's head out of the hole, even at night!

As for bird traps, make a bird hat, and it works even faster. same thing with the "seed farm"

I didn't know that! Awesome, but I burnt about 4 tentacle spots in a fire because I thought the hat was useless.

Back to hunting tentacles for MORE seeds.
