I just wanted to suggest maybe including an item shop of some kinda, Either in a pig village, or a mysterious traveling merchant. Could make the merchant killable for quick profit, otherwise using gold for currency and exchange. If both were maybe included, the rooted village type could sell off Meat or refined materials at fairly high prices, only to be bought in desperation. The traveling and much harder one could sell more rare and hard to obtain items, along with possibly unique equips or specialized tools, only available through him. Id make that merchant much harder or impossible to kill, while both would respond in harsh retaliation, along with gaining bad karma through slaying either one. Mostly suggesting these things as means to extend long game content, and neither is meant to be used right away, as item prices would make it impossible, as well as making it possible to include more powerful, but limited use items to survive as the difficulty ramped up for surviving longer.

I don't see why a travelling merchant would come along. Can't be very good business on an island with one potential customer. Also it would take away the feeling of isolation. As well as that, I don't think collecting gold is necessarily less time consuming than just making the item yourself. Plus part of the fun is exploring the world and finding items you need.
