Character Idea - Wyk the Wild Child

Recommended Posts

I've been playing Don't Starve Together for a while now and I love the dark atmosphere and different characters. My favorite one to play is Webber. The only thing is that when playing with others it can prove a little difficult when playing with others that aren't "monsters" like him since they can't live close to spiders and Webber can't camp near the pig villages. It's really not a big deal but I was hoping to suggest a character who is somewhat monstrous as well. I hope you will consider my ideas even if it's for a future character that's a bit different from the one I threw together.

 Wyk

The Wild Child

"Is this the way to Grandma's house?"

  • Has a way with animals
  • Doesn't lose sanity around monsters (unless attacked)
  • She's a vegetarian (most of the time)
  • She gets a bit moody during the full moon

She enters the world with a light weight piggyback that her mom made her and cheery mindset, seeming quite naive about the dire situation she's in. However there are times she might say something rather dark that may make the player question just how innocent she actually is. She mentions her mother from time to time. She hardly ever talks about her father who has disappeared under "mysterious" circumstances after a heated argument with her mother during a full moon.

So if you haven't guessed yet, Wyk is a werewolf or werehound. And her mother happened to be one too. Probably wasn't a big secret. She goes through four stages as the moon grows bigger:

1. She looks like a normal girl

2. Her hair gets messier and fangs appear

3. Ears and a tail appear. She starts to form a snout.

4. Her hair is wild, she has a snout and hound nose.

In the first two, she's still considered human and can interact with pigs without any complications. She can also feed beefalo and bunnies and lead them short distances. Also if the hounds attack they won't recognize her and will chase her like other characters. However once she hits stage three pigs will attack her if they see her and animals will react to her as they would other players. Some of her quotes may also change as she begins to hunger for meat. But the plus side is if the hounds attack while she's wolfed-out they will flock to her and await for her to lead them on a hunt. They will follow and attack anything Wyk wishes them to (which would be a heck of a lot of fun in PVP). If the person playing as Wyk is AFK and doesn't respond they will get bored and continue with their original plan of terrorizing other players leaving her alone.

When the full moon lights up the night Wyk is entirely wolfed-out and a pack of hounds join her side. Her speed is also increased to that of her pack mates. During the night her hunger continues to drop and the only thing that truly satisfies her hunger is meat. I was possibly thinking maybe her sanity would slowly fall as well if she's not careful to stay with her pack. Being near her hound allies helps her gain sanity plus with their help she can get the meat she needs. I had a couple ideas I was playing around with such as they could dig up rabbit holes, attack bigger animals, or tear down pighouses. Once the night is over the hounds would leave and Wyk would probably lose a small amount of sanity from the experience.

Wyk's health as a human would probably be smaller than most of the players and only increases when she's wolfed-out.

Her hunger would be relatively average. She would eat veggies as a human and eat more meat as a wolf

Wyk's sanity, I'd imagine, wouldn't be as great as Wickerbottom's but it wouldn't be as terrible as Webber's either.

Things that would help her sanity would be the regular things such as picking flowers and eating or wearing certain things. Another thing that could boost her sanity is feeding animals and/or keeping a small animal as a sort of pet in her backpack. She could keep something as a bird or rabbit in her inventory. However if the animal begins to starve or dies that'll hurt her sanity so she either has to let them go when they get hungry or feed them. And as I said earlier, hunting with her pack increases sanity.

Things that would hurt her sanity besides the regular stuff would be if she were kill a small animal or have it starve/die in her care. Killing an animal takes a large chunk out of her sanity unless she's in her wolf stages. Eating meat also hurts her sanity if she's human but not that severely. While hunting with her pack if one of her members die she will lose some sanity.

Lastly, I came up with some quotes that sort of express her personality:

(looking at rabbit as a human)- "I can't really tell the difference between all of them so I just call them all 'Peter'"

(looking at rabbit as a wolf)- "Run while you still can Peter!"

(holding rabbit as a human)- "Nothing's going to harm you while I'm here"

(holding rabbit while a wolf)- "You look more fuzzy and delicious than usual Peter"

(looking at crow)- "Hello Edgar, stretching your wings I see"

  (after killing crow)- "Nevermore.."

(hounds are coming as human)- "Do you think they'll recognize me?"

(hurt by hounds)- "Ouch! It's me, brother!" / "My what sharp teeth you have!"

(hounds are coming as wolf)- "Smells like a family reunion"

(looking at spider as a human)- "He's not so itsy-bitsy"

(looking at spider as wolf)- "I'm furry enough, I just need more legs if I want to fit in"

(Pig house with lights on)- "Little pig! Little pig! Please let me in!"

(pig house with lights out)- "Not by the hair of your chiny chin chin?"

Thank  you so much for taking the time to read this far considering I wrote soooo much stuff. I'm sorry that I more or less wrote a book. But I hope Klei considers my character idea even if it's not for Wyk. I figured I have nothing to lose in suggesting all of this. Once again, thank you for reading.
