How do you "throw" the holo projector?

Holo projector and at least one other item tell you to "throw" the item to use it. How, pray tell, does that work? I don't seem to have a button for that function, and dropping it doesn't work.

I can't remember for sure, but if there is no "throw" button on top of all buttons when you click it in inventory, maybe it already asks you to move mouse on the tile where you need to throw it?

OK, I figured it out, here's how it works -

 

You click on the item in the row of icons at the bottom left of the screen. The only popup option that appears is "drop", but at the same time your cursor changes to a little blue cube with an arrow, and that allows you to click on the map square to which you wish to "throw" the item.
