Exit Access Cards interchangable with Vault Cards?

Recommended Posts

Anybody else noticing this? I'll often run up to the locked elevator and see the image for unlocking it, I was just chewed out by Central for not getting the vault access card when I was positive I did. Turns out I had used the vault card to access the locked exit to the elevator, and now have a spare exit access card in my agents' inventory. Maybe i'll do this more often and stock up on get out of jail free cards.

If reproducible, this is both a really bad bug, and a potentially great alternative strategy!

Obviously, the game shouldn't remove your vault code when you unlock the exit door. I wonder if your new exit code will work on a vault door though, in which case it doesn't really matter all that much.

But being able to use a vault code as an emergency door opener could be a nice addition to the game for the exact reason you mention, as a get out of jail free card. I'm personally debating whether I enjoy the exit card mechanic, but at least this would shake up the strategy slightly.

Not a bug.  This is intended behavior to allow you to use a Vault access card to leave a level if you have not found the Exit card yet.

If you have both in your inventory, it will always use the Exit Card instead of the Vault access card, so as not to waste it.  But if you're in a pinch and only have a vault card, you can choose to sacrifice it to get your team out.

Do you have a reference to this, or link to a previous discussion?

It doesn't sound like intended behavior. What happens to the exit card? Can you use it as a vault key, or on another level? Does it disappear at the same time as the vault key? More likely, vault and exit doors share a door type, so they look for a similar item type to open. Otherwise, why call them vault/exit codes, and not "special access codes" or something?

Thanks for the post and savegame -- nice loadout.  :-)

You are correct, we specifically allow the Vault Pass card to unlock the exit doors on Endless mode, just in case you happen to have one handy and are in a tight situation -- we figured that might be a fun option.

Note that if you have a single agent carrying both the Vault Pass and the Exit pass, unlocking the exit will prioritize using the Exit pass so you don't accidentally give up your Vault Pass. (On the other hand, keeping a spare Exit Pass could come in handy too.... the decision is yours!)

Well what do you know. Thanks for the official reference!

So it sounds that a vault code can open the exit door, but not the other way around. Which would make sense, as otherwise if you didn't bring in a vault code to the mission, but wasted the exit code on the vault door, you would literally be stuck in the mission.

But anyways, that can make it very smart to do an extra financial mission to get an extra vault code, and bring one with you on missions in case you have to abort.

Also of note, is that it is this kind of thing that really makes me wish there was an in-game database or glossary that had extensive rules listed out (and maybe unlockable lore too). Otherwise, without specific knowledge that something like this was intentional, it would be quite easy to think of this as an unintended bug (as myself and Shelf just did).

Well it's a good thing we're active enough in the community to have more well informed people share knowledge! I like these sorts of learn as you play things, it really gives me more ideas for further strategies and tactics for subsequent playthroughs.

Actually, this sounds like a really neat idea to me.

I'd love to see some kind of glossary or encyclopedia that populates w/ in-game lore and tidbits of information about the Invis Inc world, perhaps some more info on the Pan-Euro conflict and the Corps, etc.

I believe there is a sort of "dictionary" of in-game mechanics that acts as a sort of Help Tutorial in the game, but I haven't actually checked it out yet.  This seems like it would be a great place for putting the "extensive rules" that you are talking about.

I am pretty sure I did open vault door with exit card taken from previous level. I did that with Banks. The card didn't get consumed (free door open.)

at least I am pretty sure that is what happened. I will need to reproduce it before reporting a bug. I have been playing for some time and was on autopilot. I am quite sure I did rob the vault (for sure Central said her "pick their bones clean" line) and still ended up with an extra exit door key on Banks. I used it couple levels later to open exit doors and the key got consumed.

You will find them if you play endess mode. I don't remember exactly when, but somewhere around day 5 the exit will be locked behind vault-like door and will need exit card to open. You can find one in one of the safes. So if things go badly and you didn't explore and open safes you can't leave (unless you have vault key on you.)
