ClockworkBowler
I have a problem with the game. I received a gift copy from a friend on Steam. I installed and ran it, no problems. I created a new profile (I think it's called), and tried to play. Upon attempting to host my own server, it did the loading animation with the graphics and quirky load messages, but when the screen turned black, the window closed and program quit itself. After trying to join a random server, after clicking "Join" it displays a black screen with "Loading..." in the bottom righthand corner, then closes. I've done a number of troubleshooting excersizes, including checking for updates for drivers, DirectX and C++. Everything is updated. I unplugged my external display, and everything else, still crashes. Started as Admin, still crashes. The thing that gets me is that it always crashes at the same spot, when I try to join/create a server. I've even tried it with/without any mods (even the contents of the mod folder out of desperation). I am playing on Windows 7 utilizing the HDMI port for my TV and USB mouse and Keyboard. I've tried all manners of Hardware changes and it still doesn't work, my system has handled many graphicly superior games. I just don't understand what the problem is and I hope that there is a fix for this.log.txtDxDiag.txt Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/52554-dst-unplayable-load-crash/ Share on other sites
Vaculity
Its most likely a lack of memory? I had the same issue. Try this: Disabled by default; and enabled with command line option ‘-alternate_gc’. :Right click on the "Properties", select beta, and then type the command line. ClockworkBowler
I tried your suggestion in a number of ways. It isn't immediately clear what it is you wish me to do. I follow the instructions to the best of my understanding, and it takes me to a beta key input, which doesn't recognize the command line you gave. I tried inserting it in the set launch options field, and I also tried to enter it directly into the "`" field in game. None of the attempted implementations of your suggestion seemed to work. If you could clarify this for me, I would be extremely grateful. Vaculity
According to bizziboi (Developer) from one of my previous post similar to this (http://forums.kleientertainment.com/topic/50631-dont-starve-together-issue-with-world-creation/)"Can you try what happens if you launch the game with the option -alternate_gc? (Right-click Don't Starve Together in your library), and under Properties/Set Launch Options enter '-alternate_gc' without the quotes. We are aware of the issues with worldgen, and I am working it - the alternate_gc is experimental at the moment but I would like to know if it solves anything in your situation." ClockworkBowler
I actually tried that. Game still crashes I have an awesome laptop, I didn't think that memory issues would crop up in a game like this... Also, I'm experiencing Crashing when trying to join a server as well, not just when I try to create a world. Kleera
Anyone came up with solution with this? Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/52554-dst-unplayable-load-crash/#findComment-626898 Share on other sites
Developer bizziboi Posted April 2, 2015 Developer Share Posted April 2, 2015 @ClockworkBowler, Your graphics card only has 32mb dedicated memory, the game requires 256. You could try running with small textures or netbook mode (both are in the options screen) but I don't know if it'll make it work.
