Just perfect, but really can't get past the map

Recommended Posts

I have seen lots of posts on this but wanted to add my input because it really does need a tweaking.

Using Don't Starve, the map is fabulous.

With DST it's a whole other thing...

The 50% uselessness of the map compared to the single player DS is a frequent problem and I think most agree something needs to be done about the map unless it is a PvP situation. With PvP it just adds to the fun but I just ended a 7 hour straight play of DST and I'm sure a good chunk of it was spent in search of my long lost friend! I use Skype voice chat and even that doesn't help enough. "Which tree! Which rock! Which damn worm hole are you on about!?!!?!"

A suggestion for a solution:

So, most people don't want to see parts of the map they haven't themselves looked around. I agree with this. But it does take ages to find each other and walking around together most of the time just isn't productive with such short days especially in the beginning with too much to do.

Showing parts of the map players haven't had a chance to roam yet seems like a bit too much and would spoil the fun but how about moving markers/dots to know the general direction of where the other players are. It would just be markers on blank map space so there'd be less map spoiling and we'd only waste the bare minimum of time looking for each other. As a boring old measly consumer I don't know if this would be an viable option for the developers at all but I'm hoping some variation will be available when it is officially released.

Other than that I'm so thrilled with DST and am glad I didn't wait for my free copy and just bought it during BETA. Thank you for making such a terrific game even more fantastic by letting us share in the craziness and confusion of survival with friends, family and random strangers.
