Regarding Disconnect Abuse

Recommended Posts

So I'm not sure if anyone has recommended this idea yet, but I've seen several posts complaining about people disconnecting to get out of danger, whether it's from pvp or monsters. Many people have suggested that a disconnected person's player would remain on the server for a certain amount of time, maybe 10 seconds, but as many people have said, this would be unfair to people leaving at a safe time only to be killed by hounds while they are gone.

I have a possible solution: to leave the server, a player's character must stay still for 5-10 seconds (not sure how long) before they can press leave. So, if you want to disconnect from a server, you can press escape and the disconnect button would be blacked out with a message and a timer saying "You must stay still for x amount of seconds before you can disconnect!" and then after those amount of seconds you may click leave. This would not give someone any trouble if they are disconnecting at a time where they are not in danger, as one would normally do, but for someone abusing the system, within those seconds a person or monster chasing them would be able to catch up to them, do damage, or even kill them. In addition, if danger pops up in those seconds, a player can simply exit the leave window and then run away from the danger or deal with it, meaning that they wont simply just be frozen for those seconds.

How does this idea sound? Have I overlooked a major flaw? Or has this already been suggested?
