Run server without steam ? (2 pc's - 1 steam account)

Recommended Posts

Hi there.

I have 2 computers at home.

One computer is my gaming pc, the other is my server.

I have the same steam account on both machines and have installed Don't Starve Together Beta on the gaming PC and the Don't Starve Together Dedicated Server on the server pc.

I run the server and that works fine.

But as soon as I want to run DST on my gaming PC, it tells me that a game is already being played using my account and that I have to log out that other session to start DST.

If I do that, the server console window will remain open, but I am pretty sure it gets disconnected, since I can't connect to it.

Is there a way to open up the Dedicated Server console without steam?

My other solution would be to create a new steam account and buy the game all over to get access to the dedicated server application again, but that seems a bit much to be able to host a server.

Any good ideas or suggestions to fix this issue ?

Thank you in advance.

If you have downloaded the Dedicated server files, from the tools sub-menu of the Steam client, you should be able to run the dedicated server file "dontstarve_dedicated_server_nullrenderer.exe", without any problem. Run the file by launching it from its folder (shortcut is recommended).

The file is located at:

Steam\SteamApps\common\Don't Starve Together Dedicated Server\bin

Running the dedicated server from the Steam Tools sub-menu, I encountered the same error as you described, when testing on another machine in my LAN.
