Actions while player screen is open

When I press tab to check the player screen (in case I forget which character one of my friends is playing as or someone decides to join the server later), I'm unable to do anything else. This is a problem for me, because sometimes I like to multitask; sometimes I want to take a quick look at my ping while I'm chopping a tree by holding down spacebar (which I can't at the moment - my character just stops chopping), or sometimes one of my friends join in while I'm exploring and I want to keep walking while taking a look at the player screen. I think it'd be convenient if we were allowed to keep that "scoreboard" thing open while still able to move and do stuff, sort of like in Team Fortress 2
