HunterChan
The title says it all but recently I have noticed an increasing amount of these hooligans. Well first thing to take into consideration is what character you are using, Webber happens to be a personal favorite of mine (Whenever the devs release webber or any other rog character officially is beyond me and whether or not they will tweak him) Now how I normally can spot a griefer in my server is when someone joins and does not say a single word as if i'll forget they're there (This is not always the case and remember a griefer is not going to tell you his intentions) So i'm Webber, now i'm going to get as far away from spawn as I can be while maintaining a good area to set up base. Once set up I like to set down my egg sack and hunt for level 3 spider dens to find more egg sacks to place along my base for basic protection. (keep in mind that this is subject to change depending on what character you're using) I find the best way to avoid damage is to build ice staff's and Telelocator staff's for you can avoid conflict with them, blow darts work just as well. Make sure if you have a farm such as a row of berry bushes etc, to always keep a close eye on them.I have noticed there are two main types of these criminals The first being: 1;The griefer who trys to kill you and take over your base (most commonly found on dedicated servers)2;The griefer that will try to steal your items, light everything on fire and hammer down just about anything possible. Now once you have the "anti griefer weapons" I presented above you are ready to defend your base and prevent as little harm to yourself and your base. Feel free to add what you will in the comments, Suggestions and what not. -Hunter Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/50204-griefers-and-how-to-deal-with-them/ Share on other sites
Asparagus
I find the best way to avoid damage is to build ice staff's and Telelocator staff's for you can avoid conflict with them, blow darts work just as well. Regarding the telelocator staff... also make a telelocator focus somewhere dangerous... like a swamp... or... If playing as Wickerbottom... build a telelocator focus somwhere far and open... anywhere you would consider as isolated..., place gems... then, summon tentacles in the surrounding area around the TF... or just spam the area with tentacles... about a screen's worth around it... Host/You: You dare burn down my berry bushes?!*Pulls out Telelocator staff Host/You: You. Shall. Not. Pass! Or. Rather. You. Shall. Not. Grieve!*The telelocator staff shimmers overhead Griever: NOOOO!! Upon waking up, the griever finds that they have been transported somewhere... desolate... they tread carefully... their spine tingles as they see an open field of loot and skeletons... taking a step off the portal base... a tentacle arm reaches up and smacks them... running for their life, they stumble... a wall... with no time to break them... the tentacles make short work of them... *death throes from afar... Host/You: Buwahahahahaha!! *cough *cough *cough... Alright, now I have to go over there and replace the gems... again T_T Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/50204-griefers-and-how-to-deal-with-them/#findComment-608758 Share on other sites

Zillvr
As Webber isn't officially in DST yet, I have thought of a way to somewhat protect your camp from looters(the second type of griefer you mentioned) but it's kind of resource heavy. I've posted this in the Tales of Life and Death section a few weeks ago, shameless advertising(?). So here it is, the trick to protect yourself from looters is to plop down a lot of empty backpacks. This will often distract looters from finding the right backpack to pick up giving you time to kill them off. And of course camping in very discrete places will help your camp live longer. You have two ways to make use of the trick: "Distraction Trick"One is for you to keep all those distraction bags empty and if you're just on your way back to the camp, they'd still be picking through all the bags only to find that they are all empty. This is best since you wouldn't lose any items.Or you can also drop random stuff in the bags, like nitre, rot, flowers, stingers, etc. spread them out between the distraction bags, so if a looter comes, he/she'll be stuck ruffling through the items for much longer giving you time to kill him/her.Though killing off griefers is only viable in Wilderness servers because they'd be forced to restart with a new character with no map information. So unless you have a problem with looking like a slob in your camp, this trick is the best for dealing with looters. Especially in a Wilderness Server. The wilderness mode is awesome... but to each his own.
