Hello,

I just wanted to say that it's a pity that some rare good mods (like I mean gesture wheel for example, or minimap hud...) won't be integrated by devs in the game officially instead of just staying as a mod.

I understand that it would be look like that it's a steal from Klei but... you know, if they agree to it when you ask them, it should be no problem, moreover I think it can be really rewarding for them, my mod got integrated in the game, I'm proud of that and really happy.

So come on, make it happen, as a result it will make the game even better ! (and maybe even more mods will appear since there is this epic reward to have their mod integrated in the game, it's good for the game)

@Odinfrom, I don't think this is universally true. Seth did ask me if I was okay with them incorporating something like Status Announcements in the game.

My personal stance is similar to yours, though -- getting my mod incorporated into the game officially would be the most satisfying outcome. My primary motivation for making mods is to provide features in the game that I feel are missing, and actually having a whole bunch of them as mods is kind of annoying compared to having them integrated. For example, when I'm testing a new mod, and it crashes, all mods get disabled and it's really annoying to have to go through and re-enable all of the simple quality-of-life mods (currently using Always On Status, Minimap HUD + Map Controls Removal, a personal port of More Map Icons, Gesture Wheel, Status Announcements... and a few more that are less of the kind of thing that might be incorporated officially, like Geometric Placement, Wall Gates, Wormhole Marks, Menu Colors).

But I do wish they were a little less against incorporating mod ideas in officially. I worry sometimes when I write mods/code that I'm actually making stuff more difficult because of the policy of not using player-written code directly, or knocking features that might have been added to the game later out because I made it a mod too soon... That's pretty much the worst outcome for a mod for me.

I really hope they just integrate the best ideas possible into the game, to make it as varying and interesting as possible for long-term game longevity. If it happens that a person's mod code is essentially identical to the very best way to implement that mod's functionality in the game permanently, I don't think that should be any issue as far as "using player code", surely?

Anyway, I'm with you guys! If I manage to create something great, I think it should be added to the game unreservedly if the devs would have it. That's the best result for all us gamers :D
