Mods lagging server BADLY!

Recommended Posts

At first I couldn't figure out what it was. Today I found out what was the cause of all the lag that's been consistently increasing. I've been adding a few mods at a time to the server I host with a friend. The difference is astounding.

With ten mostly very minor mods I show up as a "bad host", and the game is barely playable even for me. After having a light bulb go off in my head I turned off all mods, and the server suddenly runs perfectly. Instantly I'm a "good host" (not just "okay host" like a few days ago with only about 6 mods).

For the record, here are all the mods I'm using (going from first added to most recently added):

Where's My Beefalo

Minimap HUD

Soulmates

Gesture Wheel

Display Food Values

Craftable Gears

Wormhole Marks

Detailed Tooltips

Regeneration

Smarter Crock Pot

Maybe its just me, but none of those seems like it should have a very significant impact on the game's performance and network latency. I really hope that functionality with mods improves because those things add a lot to quality of life and even moreso to the game's replayability.

Turn them on one at a time and test them.

There is a problem with that solution. Its not one specific addon that is broken and causing an enormous amount of lag by itself. I added the mods gradually over time, and the lag gradually increased. Its not like I had six mods and everything was fine, and then when I added two more suddenly it was unplayable.

I assume that the game is having to check on the mods more and more as you add them. When 4 people are playing with 6 mods, it may be straining the game to check the conditions of 6 different mods on 4 different computers.

Or I could be completely wrong. Maybe grouping the small mods together into one mod would reduce the load.
