I think a multi tool would be great, while I don't think the cost of the tool should be expensive I think it should break down at a much faster rate. I find that when I'm out and about wanting to fight things with my log armor. I also find that I need a few tools, so it would be a great thing to have for those few uses of a tool. To mine those rocks I pass by and chop a tree down for a quick fire. A plausible thing to note is maybe only a certain character can make them, or maybe everyone can use them but said character has the ability to use items longer (less durability loss per use). At the cost of say less health or a slightly slower movement speed.

Some can argue that this will render the already in game tool useless, while others come up with drawbacks to compensate for it. I think this will ruin the threat of inventory management.

How about a toolbelt instead? It can be an additional slot holding up to 3 tools.
