A Formal Request for Change of the Ghost System

Specifically, the server-wide sanity drain. In some cases, yes, it encourages cooperation. However, it usually results in server-wide chaos due to insanity caused by the first person who died, and the increasing insanity aura caused by others being killed by shadow monsters. Also, more often than not, living players will start shouting at dead players to leave the server. Also, it sort of ruins PvP. The current mechanic does more harm than good for server interactions. I personally feel it would be better if ghost players simply had a negative sanity aura, so they could have the choice of going off and finding a touchstone without harming anyone, or terrorizing other players until they give in and revive them. However, this would work heavily in favor for somebody who keeps wrecking everyone's base alive and messing with them dead. There would be no way for the living players to fight back. That is why there should  be some sort of ghost-banishing tool, or maybe some sort of magic circle that ghosts can't pass through. With these measures in place, there would be more tolerance for dead players, and less chains of chaos initiated by one death.

Yes, I agree with this completely! I've seen a lot of people whining for the sanity drain to be removed from ghosts all together, but i don't think that would be nearly as fun, an aura seems like a good middle ground between keeping mechanics challenging but not annoying. 

 

Imagine if you could trap them in a 'shrine' that spit out flowers or sanity every so often until they managed to escape or be revived or something similar.

Changing the server-wide sanity drain to a localized aura completely misses the point of the mechanic. It is supposed to affect the server as a whole so everyone is motivated keep everyone else alive, and revive ghosts. If it was an aura, I would just walk away from a ghost, ignore it, and receive no punishment for not helping the server. Any ghost that follows me around, I'd consider a troll.

Such as lowering the sanity drain, rebalancing based on server time/player time, adding in ways to locate ghosts, adding in perma-death for ghosts, etc.
