Ghost mechanic

So i played a bit on a dedicated server today and after day 49 someone joined the server(it was a dedicated server(Dedicated-London-1) ) a dude joined and died the first day. He turned a ghost and the issues began.
The first thing is the sanity drop, which i might add is quite ridiculous considering it is global. It was managable with the sanity drop but quite annoying. So after some time i decided to look for him and revived him with a teltale heart. He followed me to my base and then he decided to suicide against a tree guard next to my base.
Now the real issue began. He started to troll as a ghost, and despite the sanity drop which i would consider enough trolling already, he started to destroy my base because apparently ghosts can do that.

End of the story was, i left after my 58th day because he was to annoying to bare.

But is it really necessary to be able to do that as a ghost?

It feels like the players on the server get punished for the faults of the other players and can't do anything to stop him from griefing and trolling all the time. At least i don't see how. I get that it is a mechanic to force other players to revive a dead guy but it just feels so wrong, that he gets the power role in every scenario becasue he can just destroy my game. Also in summer it would be annoying as well but i would be able to handle it, in winter tho...I just don't see how.

tl;dr: the ghost mechanic allows griefing and i think it is in no way beneficial to the game. It also forces players like me, to just play in a private community which is not the right way i feel since i would like to play with strangers and experience their way to not starve.
