About the key that comes with the Steam version

Recommended Posts

Most of you probably know that if you got the game on Steam a window pops up at launch with a key code that can be activated for a DRM-free (standalone) version of the game. What I would like to know is does this mean that I could activate it on another computer, download the standalone game, and even play multiplayer on that one? (when it comes out)

For me the codes just a nuisance o.o I've not needed it (I use steam).

I'm assuming you also use steam, so basically you can use any computer you log your steam account into, you don't need to use or mess with the activation/ key code.   For multi-player, you will basically need the game for every person playing (If I'm understanding you right).  (Using the code/installing on another computer won't let you play it from there at the same time as playing it on your computer. If that makes sense. With steam its attached to your account that you are on. You can of course use any computer and play. Just need your steam account and login. DRM-free you probably need the code to install it and play it. - Assuming it allows for multiple installs. I have no clue. Some games are weird like that and I'm not sure how the non-steam one works. Sorry.)

Basically, DS (Don't Starve) and DST (Don't Starve Together) will be 2 separate games. So, they should each come with their own "code". You will be getting DST free if you own DS.

The code might be needed for DRM-free? I'm not really sure. As far as I know it's just one of those "proof of purchase" type of things.

Hope that made some sense. lol

Edited for a bit more clarity.
