I hit one of them, and they all proceeded to hit me in a 'conga-line' style... with their beaks. Really hard beaks. Made it through to "chapter 2" with all major things done (including Tam Shanter and a walking stick) and recipes. Then, just before getting ready to move to "chapter 3", whatever it be, I thought I can use some newly obtained gunpowder and fire blow darts to clean up some spider mess nearby ...
