Installing Don't Starve onto a flash drive?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm trying to get back into DS, but the computer I have is a laptop that I don't have full root access to for installation purposes. I've tried installing it (along with many other games) onto a flash drive, only to be met with the same result every single time.

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

Initially, the problem was that my main computer was installing the files on the flash drive which it marked as he E: drive, whereas my laptop views the drive as the D:. I changed around the settings a bit so that it is both the D:, but now I get this error. Any suggestions?

The main PC is a Windows 7, while the laptop is 8.1.

You need to manually map the drive and the registry.

(Step 7 only, but if you use their third party program instead, that means you would have to install it on said computer)

The problem is this requires instalation permission on said computer or at least adding files.

If you don't have access for this, then install it on the USB on a computer you DO have root access on, THEN copy the registry files to the laptop. if you can't access the registry, there is nothing that can be done to the best of my knowledge.

If I am wrong, I will gladly accept alternate replies on this.
