chrisso
Just two simple suggestionsI think it may have been suggested beforeHow about adding the ability to get sick, When your sick your character throws up, making you more hungry. After throwing up a couple of times (or eating something that cures you), you return to being not sick.(It might have other effects like making you move a bit slower, or causing slow HP damage over time etc.)Things that can make you sick would be:Eating certain bad foods (monster meat?)Eating too much foodCertain poison attacks from monsters (adds variety to attacks, and counters logsuits)Eating a bad recipe from your crockpot (experimenting with recipes can make you sick)Certain environment effects (noxious gas cloud in the swamp?)Carrying too much manure for too long Getting too cold in winter? And how about adding food spoiling after a certain amount of time making if a bit more difficult to hoard supplies.(encouraging players to keep moving around). Consequently, eating spoilt food would also make you sick. If hoarding is an important game goal (to anticipate winter) then perhaps there are inventions that avoid food spoilage the player can use. R__Man
I believe the devs said that food spoiling will not be in the game, as it would become an inventory nightmare. chrisso
hahaTrue, that would be a nightmare.how about making all food that rots, become a generic item "rotten food" that infinitely stacks?so it becomes one stack you can conveniently discard (or use for fertiliser or something)Anyway, failing that, We can scrap that idea But I still like the being sick idea Edited December 13, 2012 by chrisso Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/3964-getting-sick-and-food-spoilage/#findComment-31704 Share on other sites
mobius187
How about adding the ability to get sick, When your sick your character throws up, making you more hungry. After throwing up a couple of times (or eating something that cures you), you return to being not sick.(It might have other effects like making you move a bit slower, or causing slow HP damage over time etc.)Yes, as you guessed sickness and disease have come up before, so there are others who want this added to the game. As for me...? I'm only 50/50 sold on the idea. I'm not against a player getting nauseous and throwing up... that should be in the game when they eat food that does agree with them. And yes, it should cause them to lose food from their stomach, so the Hunger meter is at risk as the player could starve. The main reason for this condition that I agree with is eating rotten food. However, I'm cautious about diseases and sickness caused from either weather or biome. If rain is added to the game it would suck to arbitrarily have yor player become "sick" for being out in the rain. Yeah, it's realistic, but even with precautions (i..e umbrella item) it makes the gameplay tedious. A kind of "Oh no... it's raining... I can't do anything today". That would be realistic, but boring.Things that can make you sick would be:Eating certain bad foods (monster meat?)Maybe, but right now you're punished more severely by losing Health for eating monster meat.Eating too much foodNah. Rght now restoring your character's Health is commonly done by over-eating. However another player suggested that when the stomach is full and you try to eat... nothing happens and the character complains that they're "stuffed".Certain poison attacks from monsters (adds variety to attacks, and counters logsuits)Yup. Poison from spiders and other creatures has been mentioned before. And yes, the common effect was a loss of health and nausea (sickness). Why not?Eating a bad recipe from your crockpot (experimenting with recipes can make you sick)Maybe. I agree some food combinations make no sense. They really should take a page from Project Zomboid... there you can't just combine any old crazy stuff to get food. You want a cheese sandwich? That's bread + cheese. If you combine bread, cheese, durian fruit, and fish... I don't think you would ever want to eat what finally pops out of the crock pot.Certain environment effects (noxious gas cloud in the swamp?)Maybe... it would need to serve a greater purpose than just causing the player grief.Carrying too much manure for too long Uh, nope. Getting too cold in winter?Hmmm, as with the comment I made above about the rain. I'm just not sure about this. Rather i suggested the whole "cold weather" climate culd be better reflected in requiring the player to stay near a fire or wear a beefalo coat (new item), otherwise they slowly lose Health (1 Health per second). And how about adding food spoiling after a certain amount of time making if a bit more difficult to hoard supplies.(encouraging players to keep moving around). Consequently, eating spoilt food would also make you sick. If hoarding is an important game goal (to anticipate winter) then perhaps there are inventions that avoid food spoilage the player can use.Ah yes, rotting food has come up before... and yes, the Devs have expressed concerns about whether they can successfully implement a rotting system that doesn't cause problems. Of course that was weeks ago and I haven't seen much mentioned since.
