TC4
I like to have multiple pit stops located on or by roads scattered about the map. Makes winter travel a lot easier. However, I have read that your bee box's don't produce when you are away from them. Do you like to have one main base, or multiple pit stops? NeoDeusMachina
Both: 1 main base and multiple pit stops near strategic ressources / cave entrances / pig villages plus a couple of cave / ruins outposts! It just makes it less painful if I lose something to giants (or rather my own stupidity). Cheers! vimrich
Depends on the map. I usually make a mini-base halfway across the world (best when connected by worm holes). It acts as a backup if your main base becomes unusable for some reason (deerclops, etc.) I get it stocked so I can last at least a week "recuperating" if I arrived with nothing in the worst of winter. One thing I do is plant "solo trees" along the roads or paths or at way points of common travel. Then if I need a quick dose of heat for a long journey, I just use a torch and set the tree on fire and stand next to it for a bit, then move on. I started playing DS before there were caves, and stone used to be non-renewable so every firepit was a big decision. I still sometimes find myself hoarding stone. Old habits die hard. Still, solo burnable trees are very useful to have around so you can travel almost anywhere in winter, even before you have fully explored and know if you'll come back that way.
