Blorog1
.....Wow. This is a big list, and I like it all but the T-rex, it just doesn't seem to fit in Don't Starve.
mobius187
Multiplayer - This would be a great feature that could have a maximum of 4 players, with LAN connectivity. No comment (well not anymore at least, as I hate crushing people's dreams...). Difficulty Settings - Its default is normal, and you can change from easy or hard. The idea of adding difficulty settings has come up before a few times, and usually by players who want the game to either be harder or easier. Your suggestion touches on this, while in most other cases players often wanted Hard mode to be "increasing difficulty until death". With every few days the game becoming more difficult. Easy would be with fewer hound encounters and less likely chances to be killed by a treeguard, tallbird, or tentacle. Off-Hand Slot: New slot next to hat slot. Can hold various things. See "New Items" for some items.Lots of players ask for more slots... to be honest an off-hand isn't high among mine. I think the most popular request for a new equip slot was for the feet. People wanted boots/shoes. The reason I'm leery about adding new slots is they use up screen real-estate and once you add one, players always want more... and I for one don't want this to turn into an RPG with 10-15 equipment slots. I get enough of that already from Torchlight 2. Defense Section: New research slot for shields and defensive items. Offense Section: New research slot that renames fight. For spears and other offensive weapons. Is there really a need to break-up the Fight section into two categories? We only have access to 3 inventions... Torch Attack: New function that allows torch or everburning torch to be able to attack and set things on fire. Like trees and different enemies. How to burn things with a torch has come up before. I support just clicking on something with a torch equipped to light it on fire, rather than the whole drag/click of the torch on an object. On a side note, I'm against an "everburning" anything. Light is a major concern/risk in the game and allowing infinite illumination would defeat that aspect. Beach - Small sand area adjacent to Ocean. Has sand mounds that can have random treasure.Yes... we need beaches. I've always been a beach supporter. I also made a similar suggestion that beaches should have small "mounds" that a player can dig-up with a shovel. And when they do they can randomly uncover: nothing, a message bottle, clams, seaweed, driftwood, seashells, a rare treasure chest, or maybe a giant crab monster. Jurassic - Large biome, that has thick jungle grass and bushes. This sounds like a jungle biome, which has been suggested and supported by other players. I'm all for it. Ocean - Edge of world biome. Has many sea creatures that can be fished by deep sea fishing rod.Heh. Lots of players who crafted the fishing pole were disappointed you couldn't fish in the sea. If ever the sea becomes a biome, then it should be connected to the island via the beach biome to allow players to craft boats and set sail. To not reduce the existing requirments for the fishing pole (i.e. only fish at a pond) I would suggest that fishing the sea requires the player to do so from a boat or raft. In that way they would first need to craft one and set to sea before fishing it. String - Used in crafting. Crafted by: 3 silk.Well you can refine logs into wooden boards and stones into stone blocks... so it makes sense that you could refine silk into string, just like how grass can be turned into rope. By that logic, this would make sense. Deep Sea Fishing Rod - Can fish in ocean. Lasts longer. Crafted by: 3 twigs 2 string.I wouldn't be against crafting an upgraded fishing pole, but may I suggest an alternative formula?:Fishing Pole + 2 String + 3 sticksThis way you need to first unlock the original fishing pole before you can unlock/craft the Deep Sea Fishing Pole/Rod. I hate how right now you can skip researching the Speedy Farm Plot and go right to the Turbo Farm Plot. There's just no need to waste research points on the Speedy Farm Plot as it stands right now... Bow - Ranged weapon. Crafted by: 1 String and 3 twigs.Bows are a common suggestion by players requesting new weapons to be added to the game, and top among those who wanted a new ranged weapon (prior to the blow dart... and still after). If you said "2 string" I would have called you on stealing the Minecraft crafting formula. In short, yes, I would like bows to be in the game. Arrow - Ammo for Bow. Crafted by: 1 twig and 1 flint. The most common crafting formula, which I also support, is: Flint + Stick + Feather = Arrow. The feathers would help reduce the number of arrows you could craft, and thus reduce the benefits gained from ranged combat. Shell - Found in beach biomes. Looks nice and can be picked up. Can be dropped by Crab.Yup. The giant crab monster I mentioned before would drop "shell fragments" that a player could craft into armor. Or at least that's what we suggested. Wheat - Grows in plains biome. Can be picked up like grass.\Hmmm. Not sure... how common is wheat in the wilderness? Dough - Used in crafting. Crafted by: 3 wheat. Uncooked Berry Pie - Food. Crafted by: 1 dough, 3 berries. Berry Pie - Uncooked Berry Pie in a fire. High health and hunger regain. Uncooked Meat Pie - 1 Dough, 3 morsels. Meat Pie - Uncooked Meat Pie in a fire. Very high health and hunger regain.Okay, I see this is why you wanted wheat, and yet you skipped the whole "grind into flour" phase". And what about the milk and eggs? In short, I think it would be simpler to skip "dough" and uncooked phases, and jump right to wheat + berries/meat become a baked pie. Of course this would probably be done via the crock pot. Everburning Torch - Luxury version of torch. Crafted by: 1 charcoal, 1 twig and 1 grass. As above, I would have to disagree with adding this to the game. Sand - No function yet. Harvested by sand mound if no treasure is found.Okay... just so long as you don't try to melting it into glass. Jelly - Dropped by jellyfish. Used in crafting. Can be eaten for low huger and health regain.So... tell me the truth, is this suggestion Spongebob-related in any way? Jam - Used in crafting. Can be eaten for medium-low hunger regain and medium health regain.Yes, sort of... let me explain. You see I also support the idea of food rotting. To survive the winter when food would be scarce foods would need to be preserved. In the case of fruits and vegetables I suggest we be able to turn them into jared preserves (Remember the message bottles from the beach idea...? Yeah, in those). Jellied Bread - Used in crafting. Can be eaten. Crafted by: 1 dough 1 jam. Jellied Toast - Food. Can be eaten for high hunger and health regain. Crafted by: Jellied bread in a fire.Seems a bit too fancy for my survival needs. I would just eat the preserves "as is" and be happy. Axepick - Axe and pickaxe combined. Has a luxury version. Crafted by: 2 twigs and 3 flint. Luxury Axepick - Upgraded Axepick. Crafted by: 2 twigs and 3 gold nuggets.Sounds too much like cheating... I would just say stick with the axe and pick. Log shield - Used in off-hand slot. Adds low defense. Crafted by: 4 logs and 2 rope.As I'm against the addition of an off-hand slot, the log shield just wouldn't work, as with only a single "hand slot" you would probably want to equip a weapon. Shell shield - Used in off-hand slot. Adds medium defense. Crafted by: 12 shells and 2 rope.As above. Stone shield - Used in off-hand slot. Adds high defense. Crafted by: 12 stone and 2 rope....a shield made of stone? Human history has already proven this isn't a viable solution. Tallbird Omelet - Food. Crafted in crock pot with 4 Tallbird eggs. Very high health and hunger regain.Sure, why not? Prehistoric Omelet - Food. Crafted in crock pot with 4 T-Rex eggs. Very high health and hunger regain.Wait... what? Did I miss something? Old Penny - Junk. Worth 80 research points. Can be found in graves and sand mounds.Research points will be eliminated in January... and rather than a penny I suggest a shilling, as I believe the game takes place during the Victorian era. Bone - Used in crafting. Worth a lot of research points. Can be found in graves.Again, no more research points, however I do like the idea of adding bones to the game. More than just from graves, animals should drop them as well. Skull - Used in crafting. Worth a lot of research points. Can be found in graves.Nah. We have bones... whatever would we need a skill for...? Skeleton - Skeleton on a post that scares away chest-robbers. Crafted by: 4 bones, 1 log and 1 skull.Have you seen the "chest robber"? That's the Krampus... and I'm sure no skeleton would scare him off. So nah, just stick with the bones. A good suggestion for bones would be for a potential hound pet. Crab - Spawns on beach biome, scuttles and drops morsel and shell. As a monster crab, sure. However some players have also suggested we add normal crabs/lobsters to the game as a food source you could catch while at sea. I'm all for that too... just split it, with monster crabs on the beach and normal lobsters caught at sea. T-Rex - Big dinosaur that spawns Jurassic biome. Drops 3-4 meat. Has a nest that carries a maximum of 3-4 T-Rex eggs. Eggs can be hatched into Baby Dinosaur, which will follow you and fight for you. Pterodactyl - Flying passive mob that can be subdued with a sleep dart or bow. Drops 1-2 meat and 1-2 wings.Nope. And the main reason is that I think the Devs can do better than rehashing existing creatures, whether extinct or mythological. I would personally prefer if they added more original creatures like the tallbird. Shark - Spawns In Ocean biome. Can be caught by deep sea fishing rod. Drops meat 2-3 and 1-2 shark tooth.I would say no to catching it, but yes to being attacked by it if the Devs ever allow swimming or deep sea diving (underwater biome). Jellyfish - Spawns in Ocean biome, can wash up on edge of beach biome. Can be caught by deep sea fishing rod. Drops: 1 jelly.Maybe... as above.Lots of suggestions... which is always good to see. Burningfox6
Thank you for the very large reply. So... tell me the truth, is this suggestion Spongebob-related in any way?"Jellyfish dropping jelly" was not Spongebob intentionally, maybe sub-consciously. I also think the T-Rex was a bad idea, now that I'm becoming more experienced with Don't Starve. That was my thought when I first starting playing the game.In the case of fruits and vegetables I suggest we be able to turn them into jared preserves.Jam would be made from 3 jelly, not berries, I forgot to put the crafting recipe. Also arrows should have feathers, as you stated.I can't possibly amount to the reply you gave me, but I will say this: Thank you a lot for spending the time to review this suggestions, I'm glad you enjoyed the largeness of it, but all of it wasn't the greatest . Looking forward to sharing suggestions with you, and hopefully some of our ideas will be implemented into the game. Sincerely,Fox.
mobius187
"Jellyfish dropping jelly" was not Spongebob intentionally, maybe sub-consciously. For the record, I don't watch Sponmgebob Squarepants... anymore. I just recalled an episode where Mr. Krabbs tricked Spongebob into help him capture jellyfish and then exploited them with a jelly-milking machine... or something... my manly memory fails me. I also think the T-Rex was a bad idea, now that I'm becoming more experienced with Don't Starve. That was my thought when I first starting playing the game. While I don't want to rain on anyone's parade when they make suggestions, I'm glad to see that you've changed your mind on this one. The game could certainly do with more unique creatures.Jam would be made from 3 jelly, not berries, I forgot to put the crafting recipe. What, not berry jam? But I want to put all those boiled berries somewhere... maybe a jam would be nice. Also arrows should have feathers, as you stated.Yup. In another thread I debated with a player who felt the bow and arrow should be introduced later in the game. To this end I felt there was some merit to the argument. As such, I thought that maybe instead of "silk" the bow required "string", and to have string be refined silk which you would need to unlock, similar to how grass can be turned into rope. Also, by making the bow and arrows a tier-2 invention the player would need to unlock/build the alchemy machine too.Lastly, with two crafting formulas, I never occured to me that you would actually need to unlock them both seperately, the bow and the arrow. So, in short, you need to unlock 4 inventions to finally craft bows and arrows.I can't possibly amount to the reply you gave me, but I will say this: Thank you a lot for spending the time to review this suggestions, I'm glad you enjoyed the largeness of it, but all of it wasn't the greatest . Looking forward to sharing suggestions with you, and hopefully some of our ideas will be implemented into the game. Well that's our job, so to speak. Keep on posting... and if you become a frequent forum poster then I'll even add you to my friend list! An honor among honors, I'm sure.
Burningfox6
I also forgot to mention: Taming the beast (Hound) with a bone would be great! Edited December 11, 2012 by Burningfox6
