While the 'bucket of poop' is nice. I think adding a 'Compost Bin' type object could be more versitile.

With a similar implimentation to the crock pot. The Compost Bin would allow players to mix various items to produce different fertilizers.

 

Items that could be mixed would include:

Poops - Guano, Manure,

Minerals - Nitre, Bone Shards,

Carbon - Ashes, Charcoal

Organics - Rot, Any food/edible item, Wet Goop

 

Players would no longer be able to craft 'Bucket of Poop' but could recieve it as one of the fertilizers from the compost bin. Others could include 'Plant Food' 'Nitrates' 'Bone Meal'

 

This would give additional use for Nitre and Ashes, as well as other items.

Making Guano and Nitre needed for the best mixes would help out those trying to farm in the caves, since these are easier to get in those areas and the efficiency of the fertilizers could be not just in their effectiveness as fertilizer, but in the 'Cook time' needed to produce the result, with inefficient mixes taking much longer to compost.
