sandsou
Please read before considering locking this post. I understand developers of Don't Starve are not willing to spend extra time and money on developing multiplayer for the game since the commitment of building Don't Starve into an excellent-singleplayer-only game. But personally I think survival games like this are only half done without a multiplayer mode, so I have come up with this (or these) idea(s). Hire an extra crew, by fundraising on Kickstarter, which only focus on developing a multiplayer DLC for Don't Starve. I said DLC because it would be unfair if only a group of people funded the campaign and everyone can enjoy the result. A DLC can be a reward in the Kickstarter campaign, and a product after developed. If the community are willing to pay for the cost of multiplayer, why don't let them do so? The whole script is in the developers' hands. It is impossible for the community to develop a lan or online multiplayer mode for the game without a huge commercial backup. Allow the community to fund for their better gaming experience is reasonable and the best solution I can come up with. Comments are welcome. Let the developers know how you think of my suggestion. sandsou
I know about their thoughts, and I have read through that post. The point is maybe my solution works, since it tackles all the reasons on why the developers are not willing to add multiplayer to the game, which a lot of players are requesting. sandsou
Then don't make multiplayer threads please. It's never gonna happen. Never say never. The solution is reasonable to work out, since the developers got nothing to sacrifice by trying it out. When they said "it will never happen", it's because they got to do/sacrifice too much on development of multiplayer. And by this solution, it is possible for the team to add multiplayer to the game without the original doubt. It may even bring in great profit to the company. Syd
It's not just money and time, it goes against their vision. Kevin in particular has been adamant on the multiplayer issue, and the exasperated sigh he gives when asked about the topic 40 minutes into this archived stream interview alone should make it pretty clear how he feels about it. Modders are free to try to make a multiplayer mod, and they've even made luasockets open to modders to make that sort of thing easier to do, but as far as Klei themselves making multiplayer, their stance is firm. To prevent a flame war, I'm going to go ahead and lock this thread. (Also, it's definitely possible for modders to make multiplayer mods of games that were built as single player games. For an example, you should look up the Just Cause 2 Multiplayer mod. That game didn't have any official modding support at all and they still pulled it off) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/30180-multiplayer-fundraising-campaign/#findComment-383276 Share on other sites
