(Too bad.)

 

Pops spends about an hour or so searching for information regarding the Beacon.  Finally, he picks up a newer piece of paper, and is delighted to find their first clue. 

 

Travel to the Pertinax Estate and question the self-proclaimed Baron Taggard on the Beacon.  The fool is known for his liking of shiny things and exploration, so chances are he found the Beacon long ago.  If he does in fact have the object in his position, steal it from him and burn his estate to the ground.  Keep the man alive, though.  I wish to deal with him personally.

Pops nodded to himself... Pertinax Estate... He returned to the map titled "The Travels Of Azcar Vorteth", and searched for the destination.

[Battal]

Quickly scanning the map, Pops soon finds a large square with the words "Pertinax Estate" written within it.  The location is quite a ways from the temple, but the small town the group passed through earlier is on the way. 

 

"Perhaps we should request aid from your friend, Jenkins Leroy."  Viti-Mortos says, examining the map.  "I believe the hound Shard is also staying there."

(By the way, this is to hint the characters that people are being taken from all time periods by Maxwell."

"Whatever, let's go to this estate and burn his house to the ground."

(And I missed everything when I went bowling.

 

Remind me not to throw bowling balls at people, by the way.)

[Blewcheese]

"No, we're not supposed to burn it. That's a horrible thing to do. Let's go." Pops begins out of the cave, pocketing the map.

[Battal]

The group climbs a spiral staircase out of a chasm, and they find themselves in the chamber with the pitfall trap.

[Will]

"So... I'm assuming no one here can fly? What do we do now?"

[Battal]

The group cautiously walks across the temple floor.  Luckily, no chasm opens up beneath them.

 

Upon stepping outside, they immediately notice that something is very wrong.  The sky is completely blocked by boiling black clouds, as if the Islands have been swallowed by some massive shade.  The air is full of tension, like before a thunderstorm.  The grass is sickly yellow.

[Will]

"This... this is nothing like that rain we saw... it's all... dead, or sick..."

"This is worse than my gramma's basement."

[Blewcheese]

Pops sighed. "Whatever Shadowfall is doing... Is probably nearly done. There's no time to waste. Let's go." With another glance at the map, Pops begins towards the destination.

[Battal]

The group sets off, Pops leading them with the map.  Traversing familiar terrain, they reach the small town.  However, something is clearly wrong here as well.  The people look pale and sickly, and some lie in the streets, coughing up crimson spittle.  One of the houses is burned down, with a small group of robed people chanting before it.

[Percival]

(Bile, dear man, not spittle.)

[Will]

"Oh, now isn't that pleasant. The KKK has invaded."

(I couldn't resist. I feel like an awful person. And I'm proud.)

[Percival]

[Battal]

(They're actually the Clergy.)

[Blewcheese]

Pops looked around... Everything seemed to be in dreadful condition. He wasn't very comfortable there, and he wanted to leave the town as soon as possible before anything came at them. Slowly but surely, he picked up the pace.

[Battal]

As Pops walked through the town, one of the robed figures approached him.  He wore a purple cloak, and had a large golden cross necklace strung across his neck.  "Hello, my child."  He says to Pops.  "Have you come to join in the worship of our Lord?"

 

(This is the part where I probably insult a lot of Christian readers.  Sorry, folks.)

[Percival]

(You're nothing compared to Binding of Isaac.)

[Blewcheese]

(Oh snap sacrilegious Battal coming through)

Pops shakes his head politely. "No, Father, we are simply passing through."

[Percival]

(WHY NOT A PLAGUE DOCTOR? THE MASK WOULDN'T HAVE LOOKED OUT OF PLACE AT ALL!)

[Battal]

"The Lord has granted us good fortune."  The priest insists.  "He has given us this town, and given us his mercy.  Join us, or Lucifer shall take you, as he did this blasphemer."

 

He points a slightly shaking at the burned house.
