Pops snorts.

"Can one not battle for multiple things? Yes, I battle for honor. Will I not be honored knowing I defeated you? Yet, I do battle to escape as well. So that I may have more honor in later years. I may be old, but I still have some time left in me. What honor is there in sitting down and surrendering?"

Coming over a ledge, the group finally reaches the Vortex's edge.  It seethes high above them, and streches miles across.  Far in the distance, an unbelievably tall structure rises straight into the whirlwind's core.  Chains stretch out of it like the supporting cables of a cell tower.

A group of voices begins to whisper through the group's heads.  It is barely audible, but they can still hear what they say.

What's the point?  They ask.  Even if you do escape, you will die to Shadowfall anyways.  It's a pointless struggle...

As the voices continue through their heads, a sudden blast of despair courses through them, making them stop straight in their tracks.  The feeling of anguish and suffering is so intense that it hurts, like a red-hot poker driving itself into their heads.

Pops takes some deep breaths, but can't get himself to move forward. Joseph sinks to his knees.

"M-maybe we should go back..."

Pops takes out a canteen and drinks from it. It seems to be some sort of green liquid. He hands it to Joseph, who takes a quick swig of it. Pops looks at the rest of the group.

"Anyone else need some?"
