cheeees
So I was looking at a post about the lights, how they work and the fact that jelly lamps do a lot, after some that I decided to test a theory and wow. Jelly lamps leave sun lamps completely useless, they can be used for beachchairs, gas grass and bonbon trees with less usage of watts. They produce more Kdtu s than a sun lamp, but that doesn't matter that much. You need about 4 or 5 jelly lamps to make a tile be above 10,000 lux if they are 3 tiles high. This is the closest a sun lamp can be put to gas grass and it's alright, it can keep 5 gas grass happy. But then we have a look at the jelly lights. About 4 or 5 jelly lamps can keep a gas grass plant happy. Not even close to the 960w the sun lamps needs. Same thing goes for bonbon trees, jelly lights are more space efficient and consume less watts. (From this test I also found out that sun lamps don't exchange temperature with pipes or tempshift plates) But that's not all, light works in weird ways that are never explained, for example the light overlay is a mystery of how it works, you would think that the more lux a tile has the more intense the yellow will be, but no, seems it is calculated in some other way and not updated constantly. You can see all there is, are the jelly lamps and they all have the same amount of lux but some tiles have a diferent color of yellow. And the other confusing thing is: light is absorbed when it passes through glass tiles, but not "artificial light" only sunlight gets the amount of lux reduced when it passes through a glass tile. Even weirder is the fact that out of all the materials the glass tile can be made. Glass and diamond absorb the same amount of lux from sunlight, but amber absorbs way more lux, and pearl lets no sunlight pass through. The most confusing part about this is that light produced by critters or buildings is never absorbed in any amount when they go through glass tiles and the different materials of the tile also have no inpact in produced light. So my final thoughts are that, maybe lights should be changed, not sure in what way but they seem to need a change. If a dev is reading this, I kinda like the jelly lamps being able to do the work on their own. (but understand if they get nerfed) Sun lamps could use a buff by reducing the watts they need. Or adding another ceiling lamp that can produce the same lux the sun lamp can, (as they are right now, sun lamps are very annoying to work with). If sun lamps could just be a better version of the regular lamp, like having their light form being a circle instead of a downwards cone, that could make them more appealing Over all since artificial lights have not been touched in a while I can't really say I have much ideas of how to change them. But the fact that a lamp that can produce x3 the light a regular ceiling light can do, while working exactly the same as a ceiling light is enough to make sun lamps look like a bad deal, says something. Maybe lights could have a slidder or turbo mode? For more wattage you get more lux/light radius. For the light overlay, I suggest to just make it work like the radiation overlay, the more lux there are the brighter the yellow gets.
