HighGraph
Currently Tidal springs have the clear purpose to produce power. While this is nice, I think it would be interesting, if they had something more to them, especially so, because I really enjoy using them to have the water level of pools vary. Similar to how spring in real life are able to filter clean water, Tidal springs could be given the ability to "clean" polluted water, salt water and brine so that it outputs normal water, while building up the polluted dirt and salt inside it, allowing Duplicants to harvest them. I don't think that it is a big feature, but with how varied the water supply already is, that feature could be aesthetically pleasing and give people a people a way to make use of the tidal springs natural intake and output of water. Since they are usually inside salt water, I think they should probably only have that ability via a building or by having a researcher perform analysis on them. 6 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/171939-using-tidal-springs-to-clean-water/ Share on other sites
Tenedas
I love the idea especially for the polluted water. With the recent change to orehulls the loop requires some polluted dirt from the outside and there's not many ways to get it. Boiling or offgassing polluted water leaves behiind only dirt since the pollution goes into the offgas oxygen or get cleansed by the boiling process. In this way would be retained by the tidal spring in form of polluted dirt and nicely solve a loop staying within the theme of the dlc Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/171939-using-tidal-springs-to-clean-water/#findComment-1870423 Share on other sites
w0rph
So you mean instead of using a water sieve, that requires: - metal to build - power to operate - sand to function - piping in and out to automate You want something that: - gives power - does not require sand - does not require piping Seems totally balanced. @Tenedas There are a ton of ways to generate pdirt, the best probably being to keep using outhouses. Also getting iron ore directly from ranching should require the player to get a little inventive in my opinion. Just because the orehulls are near relative accessible near the spawn and they are not dangerous or have terribly exotic demand should not also mean that it should be free to get their iron. Quite the opposite in my opinion. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/171939-using-tidal-springs-to-clean-water/#findComment-1870473 Share on other sites
Tigin
The tidal turbines are what generates power. I think you kind of strawman'd the fact it was going it to be completely free. Plenty of ways to tune it and keep it thematic with the planet pack, like requiring a building that needs an input of sand/mucus/coquina/whatever. Bubbles are always cool. Tenedas
@w0rph i agree on the factual way can't really argue with that. I just loved the thing thematically/conceptually can't help myself Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/171939-using-tidal-springs-to-clean-water/#findComment-1870477 Share on other sites
