for me wx and wormwood always have conflict design. why wormwood cannot heal from food while robot can repair itself with fish-sticks. why wormwood do not like spoiled almost-rot-food and even looses sanity, while wx is ok.

after wormwood's skill tree we have got interesting power-charge mechanics: your health is your energy, you can get it passively while blooming. you decide how much light-drones you want to follow you: more drones, more energy per few days you lose. with rot you can slowly restore your energy (health).

you also have rat-drone and fighting-follower. more energy you use - more resources you burn.

this active energy mechanic is thing i wish for wx. and it will not get it.

I think this survey is a little biased since the options are somewhat limited. There is more to this than which one looks better, this is also taking into account which one people think worked better mechanically which power wise the old version just was out right. This should be asking between gameplay and visuals instead of just being a simple two answers with no indication on what is being graded.

The old one was objectively stronger, so yeah I agree it would have been better if it was seperate more?

When you make your chassis inventory full auto-grapper still trys to give an item to it and when it does its drops from his inventory and if its a bug pls don't fix it its really good with WINBot/WOBOT.(Factorio main be like)

Good changes overall, but shadow affinity 1.0 is infinite times better still. And no z-menu at that point is kinda inconceivable.

i agree to a degree that i feel the art idea is better? i like the snap of dark tentacle. wx with shadow affinity should probbly oozing nightmarefuel like bots in the ruins

i am not a huge fan of the... drone with dark coating..? idk

The drones themselves could at the very least appear more shadow-aligned, if they REALLY need to stay; shadowy visuals aren't enough.

If the requirement to craft them stays (though it'd be best if it didn't), they could look more akin to broken clockworks, at least color-wise, and their scanning was more colored to fit the shadows, as green makes it too much like a standard drone.

If the need to craft them in the first place is ditched, they could look more like shadows, while looking more like post-rift shadows or even ink-blights when post-rift shadow material is socketed.

still think extra chassis should be able to be made portable by the owners like catapults and not hammer-able

the grabbers really need to only grab things you already have in your inventory. I mean maybe I am wrong and people want to instantly clean the floor, but the inventory clutter can get insane real fast with 4. that being said 4x the efficiency of what it was before is really nice when they are grabbing things you want

  • it seems we lost the ability for chassis to auto loot around them from before when deactivated even tho the drones should be able to fulfill that function which the old shadow grabbers used to do
  • is there or why isn't there an item that combines the function of both paths. it would be nice if you could chose one, the other, or combine them all into one?
  • Exploiterator should probably mark things like the tentacle used to at least for a few seconds then re-mark. would probably be more consistent and probably help in multiple mob situations
  • why no vfx for nightmare fuel and pure horror

Please, get rid of the excess drones on the shadow side, WX-78 never was a minion character. Both recruitable clockworks and lunar alignment has a certain style (even though the latter is just too much work for too little benefit), but for shadow, the Exploiterator drones are just spammy and annoying.

If you guys insist on keeping the drones, turn in into a single one that stays out of the way and keep the scaling effect, an electric doodad and NMF are practically nothing anyway, but four goddamn drones following WX-78 is just a painful eyesore. I'd much rather have the old, subtle vex effect, a shadow infused chassis slapping enemies with its dark power is so much more stylish.

Auto-Grabber is fine, even if the shadowy pick-up were cool, mechanically they give so much better control over pickups, but still... One is cool, two to four is just too much visual noise.

As much as I like the shadow affinity thematically being switched to drones, I think that with how it's currently implemented the drones produce too much screen clutter and visual noise.

The previous version was super unobtrusive, just a slight translucent shadow that only appeared when relevant. The current drones take up a lot of screen space, have distracting visuals, and, worst of all, can get in the way of what you actually want to click. As a potential solution, I think it could be cool to have burrowing drill mole drones for collection, and maybe a high earth orbit satellite scanner drone for the atrium. Not only does this give more drone variety than just another hovering propeller drone (a la Jimmy), it reduces the screen clutter by having them not be constantly on-screen.

If all that's too much effort, I'd also settle for just having them hover much higher up above the screen, and then have them drop down when relevant. Basically you'd just see their shadow, like a vulture.

You know, ever since others have brought it up, the idea of the Shadow Battery boosting WX-78 and/or their circuits more than just artificial charge intrigues me the more I think about it.

Other people have better, more in-depth suggestions, and my basic suggestion had probably been said already, but if circuits were boosted, I was thinking all their effects, both default and Tinkering skills, could be 1.5× more effective when consuming nightmare fuel, and 2× more effective when consuming pure horror.

I think since the Shadow side doesn't focus on the Chassis for combat, there could be a way to increase limit in that regard. Maybe gain +2 Chassis slots when choosing the Shadow alignment? Or when a Chassis on the map has a Shadow Atrium(or possessed only?), it could allow the creation of extra Chassis (up to a certain limit), provided all "backups" have atriums. You would need a shadow atrium equipped to swap with another Chassis that also has a atrium if you are over the limit or the chassis become disabled.

It would also be interesting if the game tracked whether a Chassis was manually built or generated by the "Inhabited Machine I" skill upon death. This would allow players to recover materials when hammering them. I don't see much reason to build one if you can't recover the materials or relocate it; it's often cheaper to just use "Inhabited Machine I" with a friend or a Life Giving Amulet to revive.

This is a good point. Why can't we just upgrade the original scanner? The same way the shadow maul has a simple dot added each time it evolves, having one drone that we could upgrade would be unobstrusive and would not affect things such as kiting.

Honestly that sounds like a great idea if they decide to keep the drones. Additionally with the mole drones you suggested it would be cool for them to assist with mining and chopping things.

When I proposed this idea, I still had some expectations, at least the feedback from the vote was very good. After two updates, I don't think Klei is willing to do this. Perhaps now we can only turn to mods for help
