It was cool, and felt cohesive, and personally I felt the theming actually made a lot of sense: shadow magic infused into WX's bodies, with a strong emphasis on them having passive effects on backup bodies. The new shadow affinity feels like a mess, and I really don't like the theme of the robot drones, particularly how they are crafted + unlocked via socketing. Aside from the current balance / usability issues, it just doesn't make any sense to me how socketing in nightmare fuel, etc... unlocks a crafting recipe, and that changing bodies disables drones. That the socketed fuel and the socketed atrium don't overlap. It's just all strange and un-intuitive.
