Title. This has got to be one of the most gut wrenching changes that I've read in quite some time on the forums. If you haven't read the recent patch notes, Klei has made it so you can only have 2 of each clockwork type allied at once (3 as WX-78), whereas before there was no set limit. I'm honestly confused why they'd change how many you can have now and not the 2+ months the update was out for, making it appear like they were fine with you amassing large legions of clockworks. From the way it was worded in the patch notes, it made it seem like it was an event only change, but looking at the change list in the first update of YOTK implies that it was a base game change.

It sucks even more for me since I was planning on releasing a video amassing a large army of clockworks and destroying bosses, and I can't continue my play-through on the main branch due to this change! I'm basically forced to rush record footage before the next beta drops. And while I'm able to have unlimited knights on my side with the event enabled, that's only 1/3 of the trio I can have on my team prior to the update! If you're gonna it make so you can have unlimited knights, then have same apply to the other units like it was before! This just feels like a weak compromise. While it was insane how deadly a large group of bishops could be against most mobs and bosses in-game, in practice it took a good amount of time and set-up in order to get everything working. With how long it took to assemble the pieces, mine the statues on a full moon to get their figure sketches, needing an electric weapon and enough gears to befriend the clockworks, and unless you were playing Wickerbottom, having to wait 3 IRL hours in order to get more of them, I feel like the effort justified the reward.

I'm honestly so disappointed with this change. It was one of the most fun mechanics they've ever added to the game and was allowed to stay in for the entire length of the event until the randomly decided it shouldn't. With how many strong options there are in the game now, I don't see why they drew the line at this, especially considering the amount of effort needed in order to pull it off. My best hope for this change is for it to be reverted, a mod on the workshop that removes the follower limit, or somehow accessing an older build of the game.

I think it is great personally. A very flavorful way to turning down the power of minions. I am holding my breath these kinds of changes can be applied with all other minion types with cute flavorful limits.

Even if they can be stupidly ridiculous "limits" like having a maximum of 88,888,888 spiders as Webber. (Not balanced but it is flavorful :P). The 2 chess pieces per player is cute and fun I feel. It adds character to the game while also implementing balance changes, something I think the game needs more of. Giving WX a little "cheat" because they are a robot too is also flavorful.

This was absurdly overpowered and everybody knew it. As someone who wanted to tame the clockworks occasionally but doesn’t like when the game plays itself, I greatly appreciate this nerf.

my only wish is that this happened sooner.

If this is going to be the new limit, I think I'll be okay with it. All that I'm asking is for it to be removed if you turn on the YOTK event. Have 1/3 of the pieces followers cap removed just isn't right, IMO.

I just wished they reduced the cap during the first week of the event. If it happened that soon, I'd be a bit disappointed, but I'd at least understand why they changed it. Having last the whole event made it seem it was here to stay, so changing as the next update released felt like a punch in the gut.

No changes compared to yesterday's beta build.

Manually enabling Year of the Clockwork Knight event from world settings will let you have unlimited Knights.

I think V2C meant you would be able to have unlimited Clockwork Followers, not just Knights. In context, that's what the post seems to mean at least.

I suggest trying it out yourself to verify it for the time being.

I've tried to get more than 2 bishops and rooks with the event enabled but it doesn't work. It ONLY works for knights.

infinite bishops broke the game, sorry but this is a good change

I'm fine if it's going to be this way from now on, I just hope hope HOPE it can be reverted when YOTK is disabled.

For player who think clockwork army is op: Yes, it is. But someone may need it.
If you don't need it, just ignore it. That's what I do.
Although I don't like this change, but it still seems to make sense according to chess rule. Funny concept, bad change.

So as infinite merms and massive catapults too. Player who likes to rule their own bishop army must be disappointed.

Well, that is kinda disappointing for sure.

I don't really use followers myself, but I get why it is a bummer for you.
