let me be funny, let me be silly, but most importandly, let me never activate the moon

Honestly unless you just have a bunch of things in your world that was not intended gameplay (aka wrangling up mobs and putting them on display in creature pins) then the Lunar Rift stuff honestly isn’t that bad.

But then again: I play the game in a Nomadic Playstyle, a Playstyle that Single Player DS and its two DLCs heavily encouraged, yes you could buy & decorate a house in Hamlet, but outside of that house.. everything else was free game for mass destruction.

I feel like with DST players are trying to turn 3-4 biomes into their house and for obvious reasons that will come with complications.

But outside of that context, if you just built small bases here & there around the map, then the lunar rift stuff is pretty interesting. I love how the buzzards turn spiders you kill into shattered spiders, this adds a whole new dynamic to your world- like for example I had my base being over run by them, normally I would kill them all right? But wait, evil undead moon birds were heavily hovering overhead, if I was playing as Wendy I could just turn on Blender Mode and problem solved, but I was playing as Wortox..

And I had to come up with an unconventional method of removing my pests and choosing which ones to leave alone & just dodge out of the way of because killing it, just brought it back as a more powerful variant.

My way of “solving” this problem was to kill out one spider at a time, until I realized that wasn’t working too well, so my second solution was to build a ton of grass traps approach their nests, drop the grass traps, capture them in the nests and “murder” them from within my own inventory, no carcass for the buzzards to mutate and they eventually went away. With the spider dens grass trapped I was able to move in and destroy their overgrown tier 2-3 dens.

This was a new way of playing a game I had gotten overly familiar with, and I welcome the idea of needing to pay attention to my surroundings to decide if killing a spider is a good idea, or if the buzzards are too much of a risk.

Of course Klei being Klei and not understanding this playstyle they’ll probably ruin it by making lunar hail just kill the spiders and mutate them anyway removing the entire dynamic of risking killing them.
