Regarding the energy that fused the boy and the spider, I'd add an option to infuse spiders (or switcherdoodles) with a part of that energy. There could be two ways it works: 1) Spiders get bonuses, like special attacks that make them much stronger. For example, a Spitter could fire a web ball crackling with purple lightning that deals chain damage. Or a Nurse’s healing zone could charge up their special attacks something like that. 2) Webber could possess a spider and play as it. After killing a creature or a player, he could merge with them and gain their abilities too. For instance, if you kill Wortox, you could use that spider to farm souls and teleport.
