Dear Klei Entertainment, I'm concerned about Wilson's lack of usefulness compared to other characters. Therefore, I'd like to propose a few ideas for him:

1. Replacing or upgrading the Torch branch in the skill tree. It's rarely used right now, as even an upgraded Torch can be replaced with a Lantern.I suggest making the torch upgrade more meaningful and powerful. Or replacing this skill tree with the Meat Effigy tree. This would be very useful, considering that many characters with a skill tree have learned to resurrect better than Wilson, whose beard was the best resurrection method for beginners. Skills could be added to make crafting cheaper. or reduce/remove the health loss when linked to the Meat Effigy created by Wilson with the skill for all characters (the health will still decrease upon creation) or give all players higher stats after resurrection. Finally, you can learn the skill to preserve Wilson's beard and some items when resurrecting him using a meat dummy. This skill is not unlocked without learning 3-4 skills from this branch. 

2. Gunpowder! Yes, gunpowder. You simplified the creation of gunpowder by giving Wilson the recipe for saltpeter, why not give him the recipe for coal from ash and the recipe for a rotten egg from rot? You could replace the unhelpful recipe for dung from rot with the recipe for a rotten egg from rot.

3. Highlight the lack of weaknesses more. I'm out of ideas here, so I'll suggest you nerf other characters. You don't even have to read this section; I'm pretty sure you won't ruin the game for everyone just for the sake of Wilson's rare players. If you're still reading this, I can only suggest not adding character flaws, but adding content that makes a character's flaws more compelling.

In conclusion, I'd like to say that Wilson is my favorite character and the face of Don't Starve, so it pains me to see that even if they cast him, it's only for reworking gems, and then it gets swapped out again for other characters. I hope you'll listen to me, thanks in advance.

I'm totally agre with you. There are many ideas for redesigning Wilson's skill tree. Personally, I'm always looking forward to it happening.

There are two approaches to this redesign: the first is to work on the existing tree; the second is to completely change it. For the latter, I think it's a good opportunity to give Wilson science skills.

But, since my main character is Wilson, I like the foundation of his skill tree. So I think Klei can redesign his current skill tree. Here are some ideas to enhance the current tree based on my experience with Wilson:

TORCH TREE

Torch Range

  1. Torch Range I. Increases torch range of light to 2.5 tiles.
  2. Torch Range II. Torch ligth emits a sanity aura +2/min (like a magiluminescence).
  3. Torch Range III. Torch increases temperature at 70°. Can use Nitre on a setted torch (refuel 90 sec) to turn it into an Endothermic Torch (-10°).

Torch Longevity

  1. Torch Longevity I. Increases torch durability at 180 sec.
  2.  Torch Longevity II. Can use Pine Cone to refuel the torch for 30 sec.
  3. Torch Longevity III. Torch equipped increase speed by 20% and may burn up slower in rain (100%).

LOCKED SKILLS (PREREQUISITES 3 TORCH SKILLS)

  • Torch Toss. Current perk.

 

BEARD TREE

Beard Insulation

  • Beard Insulation I. Can coat the Beard with Beefalo Wool to adds 20% insulation per coat (max 3 coats). Coats will be remove by shaving or died.
  • Beard Insulation II. Can coat the Beard with Beeswax to adds 10% wetness resistance per coat. (max 3 coats). Coats will be remove by shaving or died.
  • Beard Insulation III. Can coat the Beard with Steel Wool to add 5% defense (0.95x damage taken) per coat (max 3 coats). Coats will be remove by shaving or died.

Beard Growth

  • Beard Growth I. Beard growths in 3/7/15 days. Wilson will drop Beard Hair periodically (1/day) at Magnificent stage.
  • Beard Growth II. Beard growths in 3/6/12 days. Beard Hair has an static electricity charge enough to refuel Miner Hat, Lantern or Table Lamp for 45 sec.
  • Beard Growth III. Beard growths in 2/5/10 days. Can craft an Electrical Beard Whip. Deals 25.5-42.5 damage; 100 uses; range 2. Recipe: Beard Hair x9, Electrical Doodad x2, Pig Skin x1.

That doesn't sound like a good idea. The eggs will rot on their own over time. It's faster, but a lot of eggs are wasted. Maybe it's better to use rot and one egg? Or just a lot of rot?

  2. Torch Range II. Increases torch range of light to 2.5 tiles (5 units).
  3. Torch Range III. Torch's flame turns green color, providing 35% water resistance and not affected by rain. Can use a Nitre on a setted Torch to turn it into an Endothermic Torch (blue flame, cooling at -10°) or Nightmare Fuel to turn it into a Night Torch (black flame, sanity -3/min).

 Torch Longevity

  1. Torch Longevity I.  Wilson can refuel his Torch with oil by using Pine Cone (fuel value x2=30 sec)
  2. Torch Longevity II. Increases torch durability at 180 sec.
  3. Torch Longevity III. Torch increases speed by 20%. Can use Nitre to refuel 90s the Endothermic Torch and Nightmare Fuel to refuel 180s the Night Torch.

Please, Klei, if there's an opportunity to improve Wilson's skill tree in 2026, do it.
It's possible to use the current tree as a starting point, without changing the design, and add new skills or expand existing ones.
Here are some ideas from a Wilson fan that could significantly improve his gameplay without straying from the current concept. I love that Wilson is an alchemist scientist.

Can refuel (45 s) Miner Hat, Lantern or Table Lamp.any mobs that attack him while his beard is charged or any that he attacks will have electric damage applied to it (25.5 or 42.5)
