Rough quick edit for live branch, update 704870:

  • Pearl's own drying racks no longer count towards the scores
  • Heavy objects count as "junks" (gonna check for the full list later), stuff with "farm_plant_killjoy" tags won't count as "junks" (which is weird to me since they are like rotten veggies and weeds? What is the game gonna do if it is rotten giant veggies, which have both tags? I need to check I guess)
  • If Winter's Feast is enabled and there are winter skins of items within the highlighted area, 2 points will be added (per item with such skins? per item type with such skins? or just at least one winter item skin detected??)

This is like very rough, sorry about that. The second bullet point might need some time for me to check out to be sure, but the "farm_plant_killjoy" tag might be in the wrong place here. Sadly I can't quite make sense of the code about skins here, and probably can't test well since I don't have them, most likely they are the item skins sold in this update

If anyone is a heartless monster like me, they can try to despawn her pets by using the following command as Remote:

  Hide contents

c_find("hermitcrab").components.petleash:DespawnAllPet()

Of course this is just in case someone wants to change their mind on a different pet to give Pearl, or to test things around, or wishes to break the bonds of owner and pet wow you are very cruel I hope you are happy jk. Sadly obviously only works for PC users

the command isnt working for me, pearl still has the dog my friend accidently gave her.

(This is made waaaaay too late and I think people already know everything. I just want to make it as clear and detailed as possible)

Pearl's teas and their effects:

1. Sanity:

  • Petal tea: +55 sanity
    • +10 sanity, +1 HP upon consumption
    • +45 sanity over time (+1 per second for 45 seconds)
  • Forget-Me-Lots tea: +110 sanity
    • +20 sanity, +1 HP upon consumption
    • +90 sanity over time (+2 per second for 45 seconds)
  • Dark Petal tea: -135 sanity
    • -15 sanity, +1 HP upon comsumption,
    • -120 sanity over time (-2 per second for 60 seconds)

In comparison, Soothing Tea: +45 sanity

  • +15 sanity, +3 HP upon consumption
  • +30 sanity over time (+1 every 2 seconds for 60 seconds)

2. Health

  • Tillweed tea: +50 HP
    • +5 sanity, +20 HP upon consumption
    • +30 HP over time (+1 every 0.5 seconds for 15 seconds)

In comparison, Jellybeans: +122 HP

  • +5 sanity, +2 HP upon consumption
  • 120 HP over time (+2 every 2 second for 120 seconds)

3. Temperature

  • Succulent tea:
    • +5 sanity, +8 HP upon consumption
    •  -40 degree to body temperature for 120 seconds (2 minutes)
  • Fire Nettle tea:
    • +5 sanity, +1 HP upon consumption
    • +40 degree to body temperature for 120 seconds (2 minutes)

The comparisons here are just to Warly's dishes, I am sure there are other foods with temperature effects but they aren't effective enough to warrant comparing in my opinion. And there are always non-food sources of warming up and cooling down, then there are the ingredient and character exclusive factor to consider, etc

  • Asparagazpacho:
    • +25 hunger, +10 sanity, +3 HP
    • -40 degree to body temperature for 300 seconds (5 minutes)
  • Hot Dragon Chili Salad:
    • +25 hunger, +10 sanity, -3 HP
    • +40 degree to body temperature for 300 seconds (5 minutes)

4. Special effects:

  • Foliage tea:
    • +5 sanity, +1 HP upon consumption,
    • Insanity aura from mobs is 10% effective for 180 seconds (3 minutes). Does not work for enlightenment aura.
  • Lunetree Blossom tea:
    • +10 sanity, +1 HP upon consumption
    • Effect itself lasts 180 seconds (3 minutes)
    • During this effect, after attacking the drinker shadow creatures will panic for 30 seconds. These include the ones spawned from insanity and the ones from the nightmare lights/fissures
    • During this effect, gestalts and greater gestalts will not attack the drinker.

What does a table need to count as decorated? Cheapest thing seems to be an empty picture frame, just not sure if it counts.

Extra notes:

The shell turf task is pretty involved. I'd save this for last thing. Using the turf raiser probably makes it less annoying, though. It's a lot of shells, but those are easy to get on the way if you just remember to hammer the ones you get from CK and mining the junk piles around her island.

Hot tub is pretty easy to do if you remember to get an extra 10 cookie cutter shells. At that point its basically a full point per barnacle.

The lights add up to take a lot of barnacles. Maybe I'd go for the 7 minimum to keep her out at dusk.

A lot of what I need to do is just make a list of all the shell fragments, cookie cutter shells, etc I need to hoard.

Getting 60 or so points is very easy.

Needing to be near Pearl to construct things like her light posts is VERY annoying. I can't believe they didnt allow prototyping, or at least crafting placeable versions.

Just anything you can place on the table will count. I mean, you find an outlier, be sure to check points and tell me lol.

Yeah ikr... I don't like this either but it seems this is klei's intention from the start...

Hello! Wiki editor here. I just added this info to the wiki, at https://dontstarve.wiki.gg/wiki/Crabby_Hermit#Decoration. Thank you so much @namhai for finding and compiling all of these numbers! I wouldn't have been able to do it without you :wilson_cool:

In the case that anything I wrote on the wiki is innacurate (which, hopefully, it won't be) - please either fix it yourself or reach out to another editor; I'll be away from my computer this upcoming week.

Aww you are welcome, the wiki definitely is more concise than my rambling post haha. Thanks for updating, great work there.

There are some small changes klei added to the point system after live branch that I still need to test, but I'm sure for the most parts it should be okay

Pearl's level 5 house upgrade is absolutely worth it. The main cost is 10 driftwood. You also get 2 wind chimes for free, so it's really worth 9 points right away.

Wind chimes are very cheap to make, so its an easy 13 points. You can also swap out a chime for the gloves for an additional 6 points, if you need one last push.

The main things to skip are really just the turf, the fish, and the above average tree.

The lights and hot spring are a little pricey because of all the barnacles, but may be worth it. I'd list those as moderate difficulty.

I'll probably post a full guide for Pearl deco points by difficulty on Monday.

Updated the main post to live branch v705046

1. Heavy objects are added to "junks", but rotten giant crops are exempt. (Like, gods know why... They added "heavy" tag to identify "junks", but all heavy objects are already are "junks" before this addition. Then exceptions include "farm_plant_killjoy" tag, which is applied to rotten crops and weeds. Planted crops and weeds aren't "junks" in the first place, so only rotten giant crops satisfy this. Does Pearl love smelly big, rotten crops??)

2. Enabling Winter's Feast allows players to change Pearl's buildings into winter-themed skins, and these can give a small amount of points

  • Pearl's Place: 2 points
  • Pearl's Hot Springs or Pearl's Tea Shops: 2 points for each building with the skin
  • Pearl's Light Posts: 2 points if all Light Posts have the skin
  • Large Drying Racks: 2 points if all Large Drying Racks have the skin
  • Pearl's bee box and Pearl's single slot drying racks don't give any points with the skin
  • (possible oversight, just ignore this) Items and other buildings with winter skin are also applicable:
    • Tested: Abigail's Flower - sometimes 1, sometimes 1.5 points (shrug)
    • Untested: Hibearnation Vest, Rabbit Hutch (are there more?)
    • Driftwood Rocker's winter skin don't give any point even though it should...?

(I have no idea why Hot Springs and Tea Shops give for each, but for Light Posts and Drying Racks it has to be all. I only have the Merrymaker skin of Abigail's Flower so that is the only thing I could check, and even then the point I get when I drop the flower is not consistent. It should be +2 and -0.5, skin point and "junks", but even with "junks" at cap, the point is sometimes 1, sometimes 1.5. Anyway, the points from this category are so insignificant that no one should really bother)

I guess this is the end. Happy Pearlmas, to anyone who even reaches here, and to klei who are gonna take their holiday break soon. There might be probably, most likely, no more updates to this point system ever after this. This thread is probably the most effort I have ever done for such a little gain over something so small...

i sometimes use giant crops and giant rotten crops as decor. perhps this is just so people who do that aren't angry? or perhaps it is future-proofing just in case one of the two might get changed without also needing to change the other?

Potted ferns are way easier than I remember. Wasn't that an oasis drop before?

Now its just alchemy station + 10 broken shells + 20 ferns for 10 deco points. Very easy.

This means that you can get 101 or so points from easy tasks, and the harder ones are just if you want to decorate with junk.

Not gonna lie, I have no idea lol. I think klei would have a better idea if they want make sure that all giant crops, either normal, waxed or rotten, won't count as junks. It's kinda funny when only the rotten version is the VIP right now

I guess we can chalk this up as "only klei knows". It doesn't really have much impact in the end, I would say

I wanna ask, you said before that the shell beach turfs are annoying to make. May I ask why? I thought they are just 25 broken shells + 25 rocks

Mostly because I was using a pitchfork. The placing them is the annoying part. Seems like you really want to use the turf raiser for that.

It's also a lot of shells per point, compared to potted ferns. For potted ferns, its 1 broken shell a point. For the turf, its 15 points for 25 shells.

Unique structures (give points for having at least one of these buildings)

about this does this mean multiple of same structure can get more points or one structure is max to get point from each building ?

The latter. Not gonna lie I was worried if people can get confused by that.

i thought it was you can get more points by placing more of them, tried AI to explain the sentence and seems to agree to the what i think. lmao XD
thanks for clear up i thought i can just spam whole bunch of ponds

Yeah, she is in mainland now. We haven't found crabking yet so we couldn't test yet. But her friendship level is 10, and her house is already level 4. Can't increase level to 5, can't craft combriner. Not sure if there's a decoration point requirement? Unfortunately, there is no way to check points.

You can check out the commands in my main post if you want to check scores.

Combriner is specifically about giving Pearl the cracked pearl, so you need to beat up Crab King with the Pearl inserted in. However, you should be able to upgrade Pearl's house to lever 5 right after you relocate her to the mainland, so that one is really odd. If you don't mind sending the world file .zip, I can take a look

Nothing I can really say about Pearl's bee box, sometimes I see the bees, sometimes I don't... Might need to take a closer look at a different time

This is a really helpful and well-structured breakdown thanks for taking the time to compile all of this before the beta ends. The explanation of Pearl Decoration Score, especially the unlock/lock thresholds and the mainland-only area mechanics, makes the system much easier to understand for players who don’t want to dig through code themselves. A small tip that might help readers is to treat the point thresholds almost like a calculator keeping a mental (or written) tally of placed objects can save a lot of trial and error when trying to unlock or maintain specific buildings. Overall, great work documenting an optional but interesting post–Lunar Rift feature.

Sure! I tried defeating crab king on a dupliocate world with too many items on, just to test. I was able to unlock the combriner craft, but when I try to place it on the ground, Wurt will do the placing animation, but the combriner would not be placed. And I still could not increase her home's level.

Heavy objects will no longer count as "junks". (Also they removed "farm_plant_killjoy" tag)

Edit: Caught something I missed, the decoration score system also needs the house to be upgraded to level 4 before it can be enabled
