That's over! We now have methods for fixing the fumarole biome on old worlds.

This is all thanks to @Adgycarp ,who created a mod that fix the biome generated by the game and wrote a special command that allows to manually spawn a fully functioning biome.

The mod only works on worlds that weren't launched after the update that added the new biome.

And the command will work for everyone.

I know there is a command like d_spawnlayout("retrofit_fumarole") However, it spawns a new biome with only half of its content, because it has no regrowth, geothermites, global high temperature and boulderboughs do not dig up the proper loot.

I also know that there is a command that allows you to spawn a biome with regrowth and appropriate loot from boulderboughs, as one of the devs shared it under this post.

However, it doesn't work either. While loot from boulderboughs works, regrowth doesn't. Maybe this may have something to do with the fact that they fixed something about boulderboughs regrowth in Thursday's update, making the command obsolete.

But no, as already mentioned in the comment below this post. This is a bug related to regrowth in the retrofitted fumarole biome.

How this bug works was explained in detail by @sukeme in his/her bug report about this bug.

Spoiler

Anyway, does anyone know a command to spawn a fumarole biome with working regrowth, earthquakes, geothermites, global high temperature, and proper loot from boulderboughs?
I'm asking hoping that maybe a dev will answer me, but maybe someone else knows the answer too.

Command still work, you did spawn a normaly retrofit fumarole biome. Regrowth doesn't fully work because it was originally broken (for every old world with retrofit fumarole biome). This is a bug that the developer needs to fix.

Still waiting for an answer. Btw., earthquakes also don't work in the retrofitted fumarole biome. So a amazing biome that doesn't have 5/9 of its content.

This is why people had shouldn't silence criticism of the devs with abuses and insults when the "Hostile Takeover" update was rushed and clearly unfinished.

I’d also like to know what the command for that is. The fact that the new biome in my world is completely useless without geothermites is really weak and annoying.

I haven't forgotten about this post and I'm still waiting.
Hopefully, the Hallowed Nights update will also fix the bug with regrowth not working in the fumarole biome on old worlds. That would be at least a step forward towards having a working biome on the old world.

@omar_klei Could you perhaps provide a command that would allow to spawn a fumarole biome with all its contents?
(i.e. with geotermites spawners, proper biome topology, global high temperature, and earthquakes)
Sorry to bother you. But I've been waiting for a response for weeks now and still nothing. So I figured I'd ask the developer for an answer in a more direct way.
I would greatly appreciate your response. As would all players who would like to have a functioning fumarole biome on their old worlds, with all its contents.

I've been waiting for that too. I guess they still haven't fixed all the retrofitting bugs with the biome still. I just hope they do fix it, and that these bugs don't just get forgotten

i have yet to update my world cause of bugs like this.

also is there a way to remove the then redundant auto retrofitted fumarole ?

Of course it is.
You download this mod and remove the biome terrain.

The mod doesn't have a void tile. But the old ocean tile works like a void tile. So you can easily remove the biome.

Second month of waiting for a answer from any dev.

Heya, you might be interested in a solution for retrofitting this biome. I've reported the cause and published a mod to repair it.
Sadly it will not affect maps that were already updated, though there might be ways...

When it comes to spawning a biome. The command mentioned by the developer in this post works for the most part (not entirely, sadly), but it requires the caves server to be visited a few seconds, and then to be saved and restarted.

Unfortunately, I've been playing on my world for a while now after the update that added the fumarole biome.
So the mod doesn't work on either generated biome by the game or generated biome by the command.
I have a copy from before that update, but I don't know if I want to waste over 300 days of progression on my world.

I figured this would be an issue, and actually the same thing holds true for me.
(i've gone and ahead and made a bunch of progress on my world post-retrofit, and it would be a shame to reset it all)

Knowing how the earlier mentioned command d_spawnlayout didn't seem to fully do the trick, I went and did some tinkering on it, and the results look promising.

If you want to have a go at it, please follow the guide in this post:

and if is not working feel free to let me know.

I've done the thing on my own world and it seems to be doing the trick: geothermite monsters appearing, the global heat effects and so on.
