Mike23Ua Posted August 16, 2025 Share Posted August 16, 2025 So let me get this straight, you want bosses to be harder so people less skilled than you suffer trying to defeat them that much more? I think if anything Klei needs to actually make them easier if fought solo, and getting stronger (with new group focused attacks) when fought in groups. a lot of RogueLite games adjust enemy abilities based on how many players are fighting them. And I think if done well… that’s something DST should have too. For Example: Bee Queen could aim her stinger at a player then butt slam the ground when fighting her solo, this will get her stinger stuck in the ground leaving her vulnerable for a few free cheap hits before breaking free. And these changes won't make Spider Queen and Ancient Guardian unbearable. We'll just make their movie set doable. Imagine that any other boss cancels his abilities because you hit her... And so far I've come to the conclusion that the hp of bosses should be more dependent on the movset, which makes them fun or boring. Daywalker, Frost Jaw or Klaus are pretty funny bosses, even though they have about 4 times more hp than in DS, all because they are diverse. The same Shadow Pieces are the most boring bosses in the third phase. Dodging a single attack of 7500-10000 hp is absolutely boring. As if Deerclops or Bearger had 8000 and 12000 hp... At the same time, I believe that Eye of Terror and Antlion could have higher hp. Antlion feels great with 12,000 hp. And the Eye of Terror with 10,000 hp. Although it is obvious that there should be more in the team because there are 6 people who can strengthen each other... This is not normal... Mike23Ua Posted August 17, 2025 Share Posted August 17, 2025 From my point of view having bought this game for at least 30 people by now, it’s not the easiest game to get into… and it can take such a long long time (literal hours) before players get to experience anything new or exciting going down in the game world. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of Tea so to Speak… but I can’t help but shake the feeling that it COULD BE, if only Klei were just a little more lenient on how they expect us to play the game. Take myself for example: I highly dislike games that follow a predictable pattern you can learn and beat easily, which is why my favorite genre of game is RogueLites: Sure I can learn enemy patterns and behaviors, unless they have multiple combat scenarios. But what I can not learn is picking up a scroll that applies a negative effect on my character I wasn’t ready for (such as jumping causes you to catch on fire and take self damage) When it comes to DST I like to play with world Gen settings (highly random) random season starts, lengths, etc.. because I’m looking for that Unpredictable “Wrench” to get thrown into my plans. Everyone who comes on these forums knows I absolutely HATE DST boss fights, but no one has dared to ever stop and ask me why. They automatically assume that I hate them because I can’t do them. And that’s only Partially true: I hate them because they’re meant to be done in a group, and do not scale downward to be more enjoyable if playing solo. I will NEVER understand why Dragonfly Faints to the ground so players can get free hits in on her if a group attacks her, but if playing solo it’s almost impossible to reach the *faint mechanic* threshold alone. Pair that alongside the bosses always being the same every single fight …. Every failed attempt to defeat them they have the same exact attack patterns, you can quickly see where one might grow bored. TMNT Splintered Fate (Newly Released TMNT RogueLite on Xbox Series X/S) only has 4 bosses (5 if you own the DLC) but what prevents these bosses from becoming the same old boring fight over and over again, is that their entire combat mechanics, maneuvers etc are randomized each run. I hate DST bosses for several reasons: Fight them Once & it’s the same thing over and over and over again till the ends of time. High amounts of health that take forever to kill Solo..(and that’s assuming you don’t have to roll the world back on your failed attempts) And then sometimes: The loot, reward or whatever you get from fighting them just isn’t worth all the effort you put into fighting them in the first place. Ive Never fought FrostJaw, I have no use for “Wormhole portals on the ocean” I have absolutely no idea why every update Klei crams a new boss down our throats, but that’s the route they choose to go down. TL:DR- Make them fun & Accessible to players of various skill levels but also if we’re going to be fighting the same bosses over and over and over again-learn from TMNT Splintered fate and give them a variety of combat scenarios to make them much less predictable and highly repetitive.
