Idk, I think that they are kinda neat as a concept but they are just so bad that I want to switch to another power source as soon as I start using them

Maybe they could instead function as "Charcoal Makers" that turn wood into coal?

Wood burners are actually balanced. They produce same amount of energy as ethanol cycle while creating less CO2. In comparison with coal generator burners are much better: coal generator takes 600kg of coal and make it into 600w, meaning 1 w per kg per cycle. Wood burner takes 175kg of pWater and dirt and turn it into 300w, meaning 1.7 w per kg per cycle. Almost twice more effective.

What else do you want from them? Infinitive energy?

Wood burners same as coal generators looks as temporary solution in a period of time between 10 and 30 cycle. If you are slow, it can be used for 100, max 200 cycles. Just use automation to stop them from working. Try to build petroleum boiler, steam turbines, hydrogen of nat gas generators or nuclear silo as soon as possible.

the best use for wood burners is making co2, not really making power. i find use for them in early game situations under this lens (creating enough co2 for oxyferns/alveo veras)

for power concerns it find it straight forward to rush an open air electrolyzer and just harvesting the hydrogen for power. it sounds negative, but without all of the pumps of a regular electrolyzer setup, it is honestly pretty convenient even without tune-ups.
