Cruvimaster
First, we need to remember that the damage was intended to hit players and mobs. The devs had to remove it because they didn't have a solution to protect the mobs players were interested in (farms). It was inconsistent for the player to take damage while standing next to a mob or even fighting the boss. Is it only the player who takes damage from crystals falling from the sky? There was also no justification for buildings not taking damage. Wanting the damage to return to its original form (only for the player) is merely a nostalgia feeling for some players, with a false sense of danger and survival, as a simple Umbralla in the inventory completely nullified the mechanic. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/167298-the-damage-from-lunar-hail-didnt-make-sense-it-was-better-to-remove-it/ Share on other sites

Just like it's only the player that gets cold during the winter and hot during the summer, and only the player is targeted by frogs raining from the sky, and only the player has the area around them burst into flames during summer, and only the player has earthquakes happen around them, and etc. The player is uniquely targeted by many, many hazards already! 12 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/167298-the-damage-from-lunar-hail-didnt-make-sense-it-was-better-to-remove-it/#findComment-1829421 Share on other sites

So, inconsistency is fine when it lets you put jerky in the Polar Bearger Bin, but not for when lunar hail only harms the player? I think nothing getting hurt by glass shards raining down from the sky makes less sense than only survivors getting hurt by them tbh. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/167298-the-damage-from-lunar-hail-didnt-make-sense-it-was-better-to-remove-it/#findComment-1829439 Share on other sites
Well-met
no one's asking it to damage mobs again. You're making up imaginary debates in your head 3 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/167298-the-damage-from-lunar-hail-didnt-make-sense-it-was-better-to-remove-it/#findComment-1829440 Share on other sites

The Umbralla was INTENTIONALLY designed as the ultimate weapon to combat Lunar Rift stuff because it required doing all the quests to open up Shadow Rift Stuff in order to obtain it in the first place. Same as how the Gloomerang is super useful against Brightshade Clusters Klei deleted hail damaging mobs because megabasers whined that it killed their pet farms, or that having hail kill mobs to give you free resources (meat, feathers, fur etc) didn’t make sense in a survival game That’s the actual reason hail damaging mobs was changed, but if you need a funny lore reason: Lunar Hail is literal chunks of a Celestial Moon God raining down from the skies, a god that YOU angered, and you don’t really need an explanation why a gods wraith can effect only You while ignoring others. Acid rain does that despite not damaging creatures.
