Kacpert25
It's a cool mechanic, but they didn't need to remove lunar hail dmg. Both the old and new lunar hail mechanics should have been there. 18 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/167277-hard-to-believe-people-think-this-is-bad/#findComment-1829210 Share on other sites

If it were to return, it would also have to deal damage to mobs (which would kill grass gekko and, over time, even goats). So they would have to create new structures, as was done in the caves. A lot of work, in my opinion. Both the old and new lunar hail mechanics should have been there. You keep saying this but without providing any reasoning. I genuinely want to understand what I'm missing about the old lunar hail, because the only thing I did during them was watch Woby run around and try to pick up moon glass for 60 seconds. Even themeatically, it was a lot more enjoyable being able to calmly sit and listen to the beautiful sounds of the lunar hail than have it interrupted intermittently by the occasional cacophony of my character taking 1 damage. I'm very confused by everyone suddenly saying lunar hail did "chip damage" and pretending it was so insignificant. I've almost died to lunar hail before as Wigfrid just because I was too stubborn to equip my umbralla for a few moments, and the person I always play with has died to it on several occasions. The damage was no joke. 11 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/167277-hard-to-believe-people-think-this-is-bad/#findComment-1829218 Share on other sites

The damage was no joke. I imagine most people without an umbralla were fine with just wearing a brightshade helm other armor. Which would reduce the damage to a reasonable degree. Because it was just a surface earthquake, I've definitely gotten hurt significantly by pre rift earthquakes in the caves before and those only do 20 damage. So I can see how being unprepared is dangerous (unless you walk to the closest tree and go get a water while waiting for the hail to end) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/167277-hard-to-believe-people-think-this-is-bad/#findComment-1829219 Share on other sites
Well-met
The pile-up is a cool mechanic and no one's arguing against that however the harmlessness makes no sense because klei keeps buffing survivors and making the game easier and yet the threats aren't keeping up. 14 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/167277-hard-to-believe-people-think-this-is-bad/#findComment-1829221 Share on other sites
kroban
I really like this mechanic but I think it would be cooler if we get this lunar hail before rift, after killing CC. It seems much more fitting since, unless you are rushing the content (and atleast on the server I play we don't), that sweet spot between CC and activating rifts still has good uses for glass. I may be missing something here, but post-rift, what can this much glass be used for? other than for stacking glass axes if you dont have the Mauler, if you are playing Walter for the virtually infinite ammo, or I guess some cool glass statues? Glass has just way more uses on early to mid game, not that much on late. Like at best one could argue that in late we may use that glass for the electric fences but, with how good these electric fences are, most people won't wait that long to craft them. Post-rift imo the old version of the hail should have stayed on top of this, maybe toned down for better performance. But lunar hail doing no damage is kind of dumb, we were sold into the idea that this was "glass falling from the sky on the dangerous post-rift scenario with higher threats" Edited July 29, 2025 by kroban 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/167277-hard-to-believe-people-think-this-is-bad/#findComment-1829233 Share on other sites

It seems that people in the forum lost their memory, as they do not remember that the damage was so that it was all alive at Constant and Klei had to remove damage to the mobs at the community's request. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/167277-hard-to-believe-people-think-this-is-bad/#findComment-1829250 Share on other sites

The damage was no joke. Idk what to tell you if you're walking around post rift without some sort of planar armor nor umbralla in your inventory. It is not a challenge to survive the old Lunar Hail, in fact it is a far greater challenge to die to it, unless your Tam-o-shanter is glued to your head and your backpack fused to your spine and you've chopped every tree in the world. Even if they made the debris do 100 damage a hit, it would just become mandatory to deal with it and still wouldn't be a challenge. There is no middle ground here really, not unless they made it short like cave ins and removed umbralla immunity and tree immunity and... well just not unless they made them identical to cave ins. 4 hours ago, Jakepeng99 said: Who says it has to damage them Just make it make them flinch. Nobody besides us or people who religiously read patch notes are going to know their caged Tallbirds aren't dying when they look like they definitely are. Intuitively if you see a mob flinch and make the hurt sound you assume they're dying. Evelo
You completely missed the reason why it is disliked. It removes a survival challenge from a survival game. Granted the survival mechanic of the Lunar Hail was already poor and hardly a problem in the first place as it was just rain except you get hurt instead of wet. 6 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/167277-hard-to-believe-people-think-this-is-bad/#findComment-1829320 Share on other sites
Lovens
What's the problem with lunar hail damaging creatures again? I thought this was patched long ago, I remember lunar hail only damaging players since it made it to prod. Why do people bring this bad mechanic up again, is it back? Schneid_101
They should bring back lunar hail but instead of just damaging the player, it also makes them drowsy and enough hits will make the player fall asleep. If your on a beeffalo, enough hits will buck you off. Mike23Ua
Honestly? It just felt like Klei stole a unique gameplay mechanic from cave exploration (the earthquakes) and added that to the surface with funny moon rock bonks. But to be such a late game weather effect: it absolutely sucked (now it sucks even worse cause it doesn’t harm the player.. but still you get the idea.) I’m hopeful that Klei will add mob mutations during lunar hail which will replace the surface earthquakes. Making Normally peaceful mobs turn hostile (like they do in hamlet DLC) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/167277-hard-to-believe-people-think-this-is-bad/#findComment-1829343 Share on other sites
