The most critical moments are when he drops from 17k and when he does the first light attack (I don't know the name). After that there are few missile attacks during the fight.

But thermal stones in sufficient quantity solve this problem effectively.

I guess 10 stones and 80 stars should be enough

This was explained by Klei in a post. If there's no other targets, the missiles hit the player. Valid targets are non-small creatures and anything above background temperature.

i used wolfgang fire dumbbell to instantly start big fires on packs of lunar trees/dropped wood

did not expect to actually find use for special bells, going in boss mostly blind
as far as i got it, boss needs to take like 2-3k damage during his missiles rotation and he does 2 during the fight, if there is sufficient fire that spreads back and forth between things you will be able to push through it mostly harmless
i think finding some material that catches fire fast and burns for long could be non-cheesy way to do the boss
